Another Milestone: Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu Brings Clean Water to Ijomi Community via Solar Project
By GABRIEL CHOBA
After decades of grappling with acute water scarcity, the people of the Ijomi community in Ethiope Federal Constituency are finally breathing a sigh of relief.
A new solar-powered water project, facilitated by the Rt. Hon. Mrs. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, is nearing completion, marking a turning point for the fast-growing area.
The project, executed through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was hailed by the Ibori Suenu Grassroots Network (ISGN) as a “promise fulfilled.” Unlike traditional boreholes that rely on the erratic national grid, this facility utilizes solar energy to ensure a 24/7 supply of clean water to residents.
During a recent site inspection, ISGN Media Executive Comrade Isiosio Ufuoma James, alongside community leaders “Doctor” Muchin Ogini and Okorodeden Philips, confirmed that work has surpassed the 80% completion mark.
“For decades, our people clamoured for this basic amenity,” James noted. “Today, the narrative is changing. We are satisfied with the quality of work and urge the contractor to finish quickly so the residents can begin using the facility.”
The ISGN leadership described the water project as just one piece of a broader developmental puzzle. They pointed to the Representative’s track record of facilitating foreign scholarships, road construction, street lighting, and free medical outreaches as evidence of her commitment to the grassroots.
In a personal statement, ISGN Media Director Dr. Henry Ofa, who has maternal roots in Ijomi’s famous Omogaga family, expressed deep joy over the intervention, stating that the project is a testament to the Representative’s empathy and legislative capacity.
As the 2027 election cycle approaches, the mood in Ijomi is one of renewed loyalty. The ISGN and local constituents reaffirmed their support for Ibori-Suenu, suggesting that her performance in less than three years in office has earned her a mandate for continued service.
