The leadership of Delta Political Vanguard (DPV), a foremost political group in Delta State that is well known for grassroot mobilisation held a meeting at its Asaba Secretariat to drum support for their preferred candidate of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who was dragged to court by an aggrieved aspirant. The group which is made up of seasoned grassroot politicians called the meeting to abreast their base ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Director General of DPV, Hon Ifeanyi Eboigbe said the party has spoken through the primaries and they stand firmly behind the gubernatorial candidate of the party. He gave several scenarios that supports the authenticity of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as a a very popular candidate in Delta State. He is widely accepted, good understanding of the ethnic diversities of Delta State and having worked closely with the Governor of Delta State, he is indeed ready to do more for the people.
As the meeting proceeded, Hon Joan Onyeamechi a.k.a Ada Anioma was invited to address the people. Her speech was not different from the earlier speaker. However, went back memory lane as to how Governors emerged in the past. According to her, the process is usually not smooth, there are ups and downs but the will of the people prevailed. She went further to say that previous primaries and the after effects were worse than what we have today. Therefore, she is confident of victory for the gubernatorial candidate and the matter before the court is mere distraction to Osadebe House. She admonished members to stand firm and be careful of rumour mongers/ traitors within. Despite having a seating Governor, the process was free, fair, transparent and credible unlike in the past.
Another elder who was invited to dissect the issues was Odior Iduh Amideh, a renowned leader in the party and the Sheriff Oborevwori project. ‘ A pregnant woman cannot climbed a tree’ but in this case, we shall mobilize all the pregnant women for this course. He said, during the campaigns, it was clear that Deltans are truly Sherrified with the popular yellow revolution making waves in the state and beyond. The synergy between the legislature and the Executive is a testament to leadership qualities that the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP possesses. These qualities led to the overwhelming victory at the primaries because Deltans and party faithfuls have seen the light in him. As an elder, he wants the best for his children and grand children and More Agenda is perfect for them.
The Deputy National Chairman of Delta Political Vanguard, High Chief Bashorun Askia Ogieh who also double as MD of DESOPADEC said, HE Sen(Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa has done well in governance and affairs of the party. Despite pressures from all quarters he gave a level playing field for all aspirant to contest. The contest gave birth to a winner which is Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori. The primaries was a referendum on the aspirants. The process that was assessed as one of the best in this part of the world cannot be stolen through the back door. According to him, his political family is fully Sherrified and are standing very firm with Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
Hon Daniel Mayuku a.k.a Bossman gave chronological analysis of the political terrain and how previous Governors were made. The process was stressful but the party prevailed despite barrage of litigation. The Executive Director project said he is confident of victory at the appellate court and has no reason to jump ship. In his statement ‘ this whole episode will pass and the party shall be become stronger.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of DPV Hon Michael Diden approached the situation from a different perspective. In 1999, most of those who took over Govt were in their late 20s and 30s yet they ran the state seamlessly. Why would such persons say otherwise with people older? ‘The same people we had supported their dreams and aspirations in the past, have suddenly become emperors when it was not in their favour’. That is the height of injustice in the land Diden said. Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has held several positions without any controversy why is it now that he won the primaries, apparently some persons believe the State belongs to them. According to the national chairman of the group, this trials shall pass over because he believes that the appellate court shall upturn the decision of the lower court. Therefore, he encouraged members of the group to galvanize their base for the task ahead. He went further to state that, the group shall metamorphose from Delta Political Vanguard to Nigeria Political Vanguard with the nomination of HE Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa as Vice Presidential candidate of the party. Hence, there is ample room for everybody to effectively function for the overall interest of the group. It was on this note that August 14,2022 was chosen for mother of all rallies in the state.
