The title of this article, “APC’s bad roads in Delta State” was deliberately chosen to draw the attention of the APC’s Federal Government to the harrowing experience motorists and commuters go through due to the deplorable state of Federal roads in Delta State and call on the Buhari’s administration to urgently reconstruct, repair, or maintain the failed roads. The pathetic situation of the bad roads poses a serious security threat. In fact, kidnappers and bandits pick their victims at will from these multiple bad spots.

The Federal roads in Delta State connect major cities and states in the South-South geopolitical zone of the country. In Nigeria, statistics have shown that the roads as strategic routes carry 70 per cent of road traffic in the country and they represent about 17 per cent of the national road network of the 200,000 kilometres.

The Federal roads in Delta State are: Benin-Agbor-Asaba-Onitsha, Warri-Effurun-Sapele-Oghara-Benin, Sapele-Amukpe-Eku-Abraka-Obiaruku-Agbor, DSC-Aladja-Ovwian-Mofor-Effurun-NPA and Effurun-Agbarho-Ughelli-Ughwerun-Patani-Bayelsa East West roads. But the two most prominent of the bad roads are the Sapele-Amukpe-Eku-Abraka-Obiaruku-Agbor and Warri-Effurun-Sapele-Oghara-Benin roads.

In Delta State, it is observed that officials of the APC have failed to distinguish between the Federal and State roads. The public should be informed that the Delta State Government has no power to intervene in the failed portions of the Federal roads because of the draconic law of the Buhari’s administration. It is on record that the Buhari’s Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, banned States from intervening in the Federal Government owned roads, irrespecĀtive of their deplorable condition.

So, henceforth, when the mischievous elements try to drag the Delta State Government into the failed Federal Government’s roads, you do well to rebuke them and call on the Buhari and APC to do the needful.
