Delta 2027: Ogboru’s Serial Governorship Bid Will End in Praise, Glorifying God — ADC

The Delta State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed confidence that the long-standing governorship ambition of its candidate, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, will culminate in victory in the 2027 governorship election, describing it as a journey that will end in praise and bring glory to God.
The party’s Delta State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Fred Akpewe, made the declaration while addressing journalists at the party’s state secretariat in Asaba.

According to Akpewe, Delta State has been governed by the same political party for over three decades, yet many residents continue to face economic hardship and underdevelopment. He argued that despite successive administrations and changing political slogans, many of the state’s fundamental challenges have remained unresolved.

He noted that poor infrastructure in many communities, high youth unemployment, declining industrial productivity, inadequate healthcare services, and concerns over transparency and accountability continue to dominate public discourse across the state.

Akpewe maintained that one of the basic principles of democracy and good governance is the willingness of citizens to embrace a credible alternative when an existing system consistently fails to deliver the expected results.

He said sustainable progress is achieved not by repeating the same approach but by embracing fresh ideas, innovative leadership, and a new philosophy of governance.

The ADC spokesman described Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru as a credible alternative, stating that his achievements in the private sector demonstrate leadership qualities rooted in efficiency, accountability, and measurable results.

According to him, supporters of the ADC governorship candidate believe those qualities can be translated into effective public administration capable of repositioning Delta State for sustainable economic growth and development.

Akpewe stressed that the call for Ogboru’s emergence as governor is not merely about changing political personalities but about transforming the state’s governance model into one driven by competence, prudent resource management, productivity, transparency, and inclusive development.

He added that every successful democracy thrives on the availability of credible alternatives, noting that where one governing approach has fallen short over a prolonged period, another deserves the opportunity to prove its effectiveness.

“This is not about rejecting the past for its own sake,” he said. “It is about recognising that societies make progress when they are willing to learn, adapt, and embrace innovation.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 governorship election, Akpewe urged Deltans to focus less on political loyalty and more on the leadership model that can unlock the state’s enormous human and economic potential.

He concluded that, for many Deltans seeking meaningful change, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru’s candidacy represents an opportunity to embrace a new vision, a new style of leadership, and a fresh direction for the development of Delta State.
