Delta CDHR Condemns Killing of Mene Demands Justice

The Acting Chairman of the Delta State Branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Comrade Eruore Samuel Edoso, has strongly condemned the alleged gruesome and unlawful killing of Mr. Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Million, describing the incident as a tragic violation of human rights and an assault on the rule of law.

Reacting to the development, Edoso questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the reported discovery linked to a waybill, insisting that its ownership and origin must be thoroughly investigated.

“Who owns the waybill? ASP Usman Nuhu must provide answers,” he stated, stressing that no individual should be subjected to unlawful execution without proper investigation and due legal process.

The CDHR acting chairman noted that the alleged act constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental right to life as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). He emphasized that the principle of presumption of innocence remains a cornerstone of the nation’s justice system.

“No individual, regardless of the allegation against them, should be deprived of life without due process of law. Any deviation from this constitutional principle amounts to lawlessness, abuse of power, and impunity,” he said.

Edoso further warned that extrajudicial killings erode public confidence in law enforcement institutions, weaken the rule of law, and create a dangerous precedent where security operatives assume the roles of judge, jury, and executioner.

“Such actions cannot and must not be tolerated in any civilized society,” he added.

While noting that the officer allegedly involved has reportedly been dismissed by the Inspector-General of Police, the CDHR Acting Chairman called on the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the matter, ensuring that all those culpable are brought to justice.

He vowed that the case would not be swept under the carpet, reaffirming his commitment to protecting the lives of Deltans both at home and in the diaspora.

“I will not allow this heinous act to be ignored. Justice must be served, and every perpetrator connected to this act must be brought to book. The lives of our people matter deeply, and we must stand against every form of oppression and unlawful killing,” he declared.

The incident has continued to generate widespread reactions across Delta State, with residents and youth groups calling for justice for the late Ogidi and demanding greater accountability within the police system.
