SUPREME COURT VERDICT: Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori Dedicates Victory To God.
This morning, the Supreme Court, affirmed my candidacy in next year’s governorship election by upholding the judgment of the Appeal Court of August 29, 2022, which recognized me as the duly elected PDP candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Delta State. This judgement has put paid to months of anxiety, speculations, intrigues, and uncertainty that have surrounded the PDP governorship ticket since my emergence on May 25.
First, I thank the Almighty God for this victory. It is His doing and it is marvelous in my eyes. Indeed, they that trust in God shall not be put to shame. I owe Him a debt of gratitude for His sustaining grace, guidance, favour, and blessings. To Him alone be all the glory for this victory.
It goes without saying that today’s pronouncement by the Supreme Court has further strengthened my faith in the judiciary. The learned justices of the apex court have demonstrated once again that the judiciary is our last hope. I salute their courage and conviction on the side of truth and justice.
I thank my family, political allies, friends, numerous supporters, and well-wishers who stood solidly with me throughout this trying period. It was as exacting as it was tasking, challenging as it was draining. Through it all, their support did not waver and was a much-needed morale booster. I am thankful for all the calls, encouraging messages, and assurances while the trial lasted. It is my prayer that the almighty God will abundantly reward you for your labour of love towards me.
With the court case behind us now, it is my hope and expectation that as members of our great party, the PDP, we will set aside our differences, close ranks, and band together for the great task of winning the 2023 governorship election in our beloved State. Let me reiterate what I said on August 29 that there there is “no victor, no vanquished. It is an integral part of our democratic system for any person who is not satisfied with the outcome of any process to seek redress in the law court. Hence, I bear no grudge towards anyone, least of all, my brother, Olorogun David Edevbie who remains a strong leader in our party.”
I do not consider this judgement a personal victory. It is a victory for the PDP, which has a cherished reputation as the most democratic party in the country. I, therefore, call on my brother Edevbie and all those who may be disappointed by today’s judgement to see this as another milestone in consolidating and strengthening democracy not only in the PDP, but also in the country. We must go into the 2023 electiond as a united, all-conquering force that the PDP in Delta State is renowned for. This is the only way we can ensure landslide victory at all levels for our party in the 2023 general elections. Together, we can get it done.
Let us come together to Advance Delta under the M.O.R.E agenda.
God bless Delta State.
God bless us all.
