The ancient Agbarha Warri Kingdom was transformed into a vibrant center of culture and political alignment over the weekend as the Warri South Local Government Area chapter of the ‘City Boy Movement’ turned out in large numbers to celebrate the annual Oghoje Festival.
The colorful ceremony showcased the rich cultural heritage of the kingdom, drawing prominent leaders, traditional custodians, and dignitaries from across Delta State. Serving as a symbol of unity and historical preservation, the festival featured traditional dances, stunning cultural attires, and historic rites that captivated attendees.
Beyond the cultural displays, the event served as a major platform for political advocacy, highlighting the growing synergy between traditional institutions and local youth.
In a joint statement issued after the event, Comrade Sunny Ozon, Director of Welfare and Logistics for the City Boy Movement (Warri South Chapter), and Comrade Clement Edafiadjebre, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leader for Igbudu Ward 9, expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers and political figures who ensured the event’s success.
The youth leaders extended special appreciation to Sheriff Jnr., son of the Delta State Governor, for his unwavering support of the movement.
According to the organizers, his logistical backing was instrumental in mobilizing local youth and enhancing the movement’s colorful participation. They noted that Sheriff Jnr.’s engagement demonstrates a clear commitment to youth inclusion, grassroots mobilization, and the preservation of Delta’s cultural identity.
The youth leaders also commended His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emakpo Orereh (Igbi II), The Ovie of Agbarha Warri Kingdom, for his visionary leadership and commitment to peace, which allowed the festival to conclude without security hitches.
The festive gathering was further used to advocate for political alignment across different tiers of government. The youth urged the people of Warri South and the wider Delta State to continuously back the grassroots development policies of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The ceremony was attended by several notable state officials, including the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Delta State Governor, Comr. Omote Kelly, who arrived alongside a prominent entourage.
