Izeze Insists On Strict Compliance With Project Specifications In Delta

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has said the government will stick to strict adherence to approved project specifications before any contractor is certified for payment.

Izeze made this known at the weekend during an inspection of the Edion Road project in Oteri-Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

He stressed that quality compliance, not claims of completion, determines whether a project is certified and paid for.

The commissioner explained that his presence on site, even on a weekend, underscored the uncompromising stance of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on accountability and value for money in the execution of projects.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori has clearly stated that there would be “no free lunch” for contractors handling jobs in Delta State, insisting that every kobo released by government must be earned through work executed strictly in line with approved specifications.

“When you see me here, you are not seeing Reuben Izeze as an individual,” he said, “you are seeing an extension of the Governor’s resolve that projects must be properly executed and verified before any certification or payment is made.”

Izeze disclosed that although the contractor handling Edion Road claimed the project had been completed, the inspection team identified critical issues requiring correction.

“We have made very important observations that must be addressed.

“Until those corrections are carried out to specification, the project cannot be considered complete,” he stated.

He assured residents of Oteri-Ughelli and surrounding communities that the Oborevwori administration would not compromise on quality, adding that the ongoing inspections are aimed at delivering durable and functional road infrastructure that truly serves the people.
