Tonukari Denies Alleged Link to Attack on Higher Education Director

Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has dismissed as false and unfounded reports circulating on social media alleging that he directed some persons to attack a Director in the Ministry of Higher Education who subsequently died in hospital.

Tonukari, in a statement issued in response to the reports, categorically denied any involvement in the alleged incident, saying he neither authorised, sponsored nor participated in any attack on the individual.

The Commissioner described the report as “malicious and unfounded,” stressing that the circulation of such a serious allegation without credible evidence or proper verification was reckless and irresponsible.

According to him, “At no time did I authorise, sponsor or have any involvement in any attack on the said individual.”

Tonukari further alleged that the attempt to link him to the reported incident was calculated to damage his reputation and distract him from his responsibilities as Commissioner for Higher Education.

He therefore urged members of the public to disregard what he described as rumours and rely only on credible and verifiable information concerning the matter.

The Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to his official responsibilities, insisting that he would remain focused on his duties despite what he described as attempts to malign his person and office.

He urged the public to exercise caution in consuming and sharing unverified information, particularly reports involving serious allegations capable of damaging the reputation of individuals and public institutions.
