Delta To Institute Cleanest Local Government Award
By Anita Chukwuma
Delta State Government said modalities are underway to reward the cleanest local government area reward in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, made the disclosure yesterday, when he received on a courtesy visit the Association of Local Government Environmental Health Officers.
Asiuwhu noted that the essence of the exercise was to institute the mentality of cleanliness at the third tier of government and among the grassroots, adding that the state government was also concretizing plans to set up a committee to promote the aesthetics of the environment.
He recalled the past where local government environmental officers carried out house to house inspection to make sure the environment was kept clean and safe, stressing that there was need to reenact that era.
The environment commissioner reiterated the call for team work at the local government level and promised to speak with the ALGON chairman about the issues of monthly sanitation exercise.
While appreciating the body for the visit, he promised to forward the request of some environmental health officers at the local government level to move the state to the appropriate quarter for consideration.
Earlier, the President of the association, Mr Jeffery Obadaya, said that they had been working with the ministry and were happy for the commissioner’s appointment.
