Delta Sports Supporters Club Applauds Oborevwori Over Warri Stadium Upgrade

Members of the Delta State Sports Supporters Club have commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his commitment to the ongoing renovation and upgrade of the Warri City Stadium, expressing confidence that the facility will rank among the best in Africa upon completion.

The commendation came during an inspection visit to the stadium by members of the club, led by its Chairman, Chief Chuks Anyiam, who assessed the level of work already completed on the project.

According to reports, the Warri City Stadium, which had previously fallen into disrepair and was unable to host standard matches due to its poor condition, is now undergoing a comprehensive transformation under the Oborevwori administration.

The Governor, shortly after assuming office, prioritized the rehabilitation of the stadium alongside other key infrastructure within the Warri-Uvwie axis, in a bid to restore the area’s sporting glory and reposition it as a hub for major sporting activities.

A visit to the stadium shows significant progress, with the facility already wearing a new look as renovation and upgrade works continue.

Speaking with journalists after the inspection, Chief Chuks Anyiam expressed satisfaction with both the pace and quality of work, noting that the development would place Delta State prominently on the global football map.

He stated that upon completion, the stadium would attract both local and international matches, thereby restoring Warri’s lost sports legacy.

Chief Anyiam also recalled that flooding had been a major challenge affecting the stadium in the past but noted that with the installation of a natural grass pitch and extensive drainage systems, the facility would now be able to host matches even during heavy rainfall without disruption.

He further expressed optimism that the stadium would meet FIFA standards upon completion, adding that sports enthusiasts in the state would no longer need to travel long distances to watch international matches, as Warri could soon host such events.

Describing the Delta State Sports Supporters Club as a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sports development, Chief Anyiam commended Governor Oborevwori’s achievements in the sector and called on residents and sports lovers to continue supporting his administration.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the club, Chief Lawrence Akpoveso, alongside member Raymond Thompson, praised the Governor for consistent funding of the project. They equally lauded the State Commissioner for Sports for effective supervision, ensuring that the work meets required standards.

They noted that the completion of the stadium would revive football and other sporting activities in Warri, while also boosting economic activities in the area.

The duo assured that members of the club would mobilize support for the Governor’s second-term bid, citing his commitment to sports development.

Upon completion, the Warri City Stadium is expected to serve as a major sporting hub and contribute significantly to the growth of the local economy.
