NYCN Delta Declares Seven Days of Mourning as Youth Leader Ovuorayevbie Dies
The (NYCN), Delta State Chapter, has declared a seven-day mourning period following the death of its State Patron and Chairman of the Delta Central Elders Forum, .
The announcement was made by the State Chairman of the Council, , who described the late youth leader as a mentor, educator and committed stakeholder whose passing has dealt a painful blow to the youth constituency in the state.
According to Milton, the late Ovuorayevbie served the council diligently and played a critical role in mentoring generations of youth leaders across Delta State. He noted that the deceased was instrumental in promoting unity and strengthening the leadership structure of the council, particularly within Delta Central.
Until his demise, Ovuorayevbie was widely respected as a seasoned classroom teacher who devoted decades of his life to the education sector, nurturing young minds and shaping the character of numerous students. He also served as Chairman of the (NUT), Ughelli Chapter, where he championed the welfare and professional development of teachers.
Beyond education, the late elder statesman was a distinguished figure in the Scout movement. As a respected member of the Gilwell and a committed Scouter, he served at different times as Administrative Commissioner and Assistant State Scout Commissioner in Delta State, contributing immensely to youth mentorship, leadership development and community service.
Milton further stated that Ovuorayevbie was deeply passionate about the unity, growth and equitable leadership of the NYCN. According to him, the late leader made huge sacrifices in mobilising stakeholders across Delta Central in pursuit of the dream of producing the State Chairman of the Council from the senatorial district.
“Despite age and personal challenges, he consistently convened and attended stakeholders’ meetings across Delta Central, providing fatherly guidance and mediation that strengthened consensus among youth leaders,” Milton said.
He added that the late Ovuorayevbie played a significant role in the unity that characterised Delta Central’s participation at the last NYCN Delta State Congress held in September 2025, which culminated in his emergence as State Chairman.
The NYCN chairman noted that the passing of the elder statesman has created a vacuum not only within the council but also in Ekiugbo community and the entire Ughelli Kingdom where his contributions to youth and community development were widely acknowledged.
In honour of his legacy, the NYCN Delta State Chapter directed that all council flags at the State Youth House and across Local Government chapters be flown at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period.
The council also instructed that all NYCN WhatsApp platforms and official communication channels across the state and local government chapters observe solemnity, with only essential official messages permitted during the period.
Milton extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the council to the immediate family of the deceased, associates, Ughelli Kingdom and members of the youth constituency who benefited from his mentorship and leadership.
He prayed that God grants the family the strength to bear the loss and that the soul of the departed rest in peace.
