The Chairman of the Udu Communities Youth Leaders Forum (UCYLF) and Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youth Mobilization, Deacon Kelvin Kpomah, has congratulated the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA, on his impactful and purposeful two years in office.
Kpomah, who spoke recently, commended the council chairman for fulfilling the campaign promises he made to the people of Udu, describing his administration as one that has delivered tangible dividends of democracy through people-oriented projects and programmes.
According to him, the Oyibode-led administration has recorded remarkable achievements across critical sectors, including infrastructure, security, healthcare, education, agriculture, community development, staff welfare, youth empowerment and good governance.
He noted that the administration has strengthened the operational capacity of the Council through the purchase of official vehicles for key principal officers, the construction and furnishing of the Executive Chairman’s Office Complex and the Udu Local Government Council Chapel, while work is progressing steadily on the Chairman’s Residential Quarters.
Kpomah further lauded the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Council Secretariat, including the replacement of damaged roofing sheets, rehabilitation of the plumbing system, installation of solar power facilities, procurement of laptops and printers for key offices, and the ongoing construction of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Shopping Mall aimed at improving staff welfare, creating business opportunities and boosting the Council’s Internally Generated Revenue.
On security, he applauded the ongoing construction of a modern Divisional Police Headquarters and residential quarters for police officers in Otor-Udu, describing the projects as major investments towards enhancing security across the local government. He also commended the administration’s sustained campaign against cultism and drug abuse, which he said has significantly contributed to peace and public safety in Udu.
Speaking on infrastructure, Kpomah praised the emergency repairs of the Udu–ECN Road with concrete pavement, the clearing of the Electricity Company of Nigeria/BEDC power line to improve electricity supply, the installation of a transformer in Egini Community, and the clearing of major canals and drainage channels to reduce flooding and improve environmental sanitation.
He equally acknowledged the administration’s commitment to agriculture through the fencing of the Council Farm at Ubogo and the construction of a modern Farmers’ Market comprising lock-up shops and open market stalls, describing the initiative as a major boost to food production and rural economic development.
The UCYLF Chairman also commended the ongoing construction of the Ujevwu Community Town Hall and the employment of teachers across the seventeen Adult Education Centres in Udu Local Government Area to improve access to education for adult learners.
Kpomah further praised the council chairman’s commitment to healthcare, noting that the administration has strengthened Primary Health Care services through regular immunization campaigns, maternal and child healthcare programmes, health education and disease prevention initiatives, as well as strategic partnerships with the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and other development partners.
He added that the administration has expanded community health awareness through town hall meetings, market sensitization, religious outreaches and collaboration with traditional rulers, women groups, youth organizations and community leaders, while attracting support from philanthropists and corporate organizations for the donation of medicines, medical consumables and healthcare equipment.
On governance, Kpomah commended Oyibode for promoting peace by resolving community leadership and land disputes, maintaining cordial Executive-Legislative relations, ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries and staff claims, and settling inherited liabilities, thereby restoring the financial credibility of the Council.
He also praised the council chairman for successfully resolving the Udu traditional leadership question through adherence to the relevant legal framework, leading to the establishment of the Udu Council of Chiefs and the peaceful installation of His Royal Majesty Engr. Mike Ogheneovo Orhugbo, JP, Okporua I, as the second Ovie of Udu Kingdom.
According to Kpomah, the administration has equally sustained cordial relationships with political parties, community stakeholders and pressure groups, creating an atmosphere of political stability and inclusive governance across the local government.
