Nigeria at 66: Oyibode Salutes Nigerians’ Resilience, Calls for Renewed Commitment to Nation-Building.
The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP, FCIA, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, patriotism, peace and renewed hope as the country celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Oyibode, in a goodwill message marking the anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2026, congratulated the people of Udu, Delta State and Nigerians at home and abroad, describing the occasion as an important moment for reflection on the nation’s journey since independence.
The Udu Council Chairman said Nigeria’s 66 years of nationhood provided an opportunity to celebrate the resilience, diversity, talents and determination of its citizens, while renewing the collective commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and united country.
According to him, the task of nation-building cannot be left to government alone, stressing that every citizen has a role to play in advancing the development and stability of the country.
He urged Nigerians to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, hard work, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and national unity, while remaining hopeful and committed to the progress of Nigeria.
Oyibode also emphasised the need for inclusive development, good governance, youth empowerment, expanded economic opportunities and stronger institutions, noting that these remain essential pillars for building a more prosperous and equitable society.
While acknowledging the challenges facing the nation, the Council Chairman urged Nigerians not to lose faith in Nigeria’s enormous potential.
He noted that challenges, when approached with unity, creativity and determination, could provide opportunities for reflection, innovation and positive transformation.
Oyibode said: “Nigeria belongs to all of us, and the task of building the Nigeria of our dreams is a shared responsibility. As we celebrate 66 years of independence, let us rise above our differences, promote peace and unity, support one another, and continue to contribute positively to the development of our great nation.”
The Udu Council Boss commended Nigerians, particularly the people of Udu Local Government Area, for their resilience, peaceful disposition and contributions to national development.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to supporting programmes and initiatives that promote peace, grassroots development, economic empowerment and improved living conditions for the people of Udu.
Oyibode expressed optimism that with collective determination, responsible citizenship and purposeful leadership, Nigeria would continue to overcome its challenges and move steadily towards a more peaceful and prosperous future.
He wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for sustained peace, stability, prosperity and progress across the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
