EFCC vs Okowa: Delta PDP Calls for Fair Investigation, Slams State APC
The Delta State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a transparent, fair, and equitable investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the administration of former Governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. The PDP also criticized the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) for its “insincere” stance on the issue.
“We demand that the EFCC and related agencies conduct investigations openly and justly, in line with the rule of law, without foul play or contrived smokescreens,” said PDP State Publicity Secretary Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu. He added, “The whole world is watching.”
The PDP stressed that while judicial scrutiny of public officials is standard in democracies, it should not serve as a tool to undermine credible opposition. The party affirmed Okowa’s right to be presumed innocent, cautioning against politicizing or trivializing the investigation.
Criticism of APC’s Stance
The Delta PDP rebuked the APC for “gloating” over the investigation, accusing it of hypocrisy given the APC’s own controversies. The PDP labeled the APC’s anti-corruption stance a “bogus exercise in deception,” and claimed the APC is attempting to create a one-party state by targeting opposition leaders.
Highlighting Okowa’s Achievements
The PDP highlighted key accomplishments from Okowa’s tenure, which included:
Infrastructure Development: Establishing the civil service secretariat, Maryam Babangida Film Village, Stephen Keshi Memorial Stadium, and Ogheye Floating Market.
Education: Creating three new state-owned universities in Ozoro, Agbor, and Asaba.
Road Network: Building thousands of kilometers of roads, earning him the title “Road Master.”
Healthcare: Renovating and equipping hospitals and primary health care centers across the state.
Empowerment Programs: Implementing multiple initiatives impacting the lives of citizens.
The party expressed confidence that Delta citizens and Nigerians will continue to recognize Okowa’s contributions, expressing optimism that he will emerge from this situation stronger.
Urging Calm Among Supporters
The PDP called on Deltans and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, confident that Okowa’s legacy and reputation will endure.
