By Philip Onome

As the struggle for Local Government Council Chairmanship positions in Delta State gets tough, Women of Warri South West local government area has strongly appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to give women the opportunity to serve as local government council chairmen in the state.

The women who made this strong appeal at a press briefing held in Warri, reminded Governor Oborevwori of the 35% percent affirmative action in the operational system of governance in Nigeria.

The duo, Madam Lizzy Oguma and Mrs. Rolly Golly who spoke on behalf of the women said; “We the women of Delta state, hereby strongly beg our listening Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori and other leaders of our great party PDP, to give women the opportunity to serve as female local government council chairman to balance the gender equality we have been clamouring for; and there are women who have the capacity and capability to develop their councils beyond expectations.”

“We need women in the policy making of Oborevwori’s administration to achieve the MORE agenda of our amiable governor and that is why we are strongly appealing to our distinguished Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori and other leaders of our great party PDP, to also take women as local government council chairmanship candidate in the forthcoming coming PDP primaries and eventual winners of the election”.

“We believe in Governor Oborevwori’s administration’s policy of encouraging women in governance; and that is why we are strongly begging him to paved the way for women’s emergence as the party’s candidate and as eventual winner”. The women appealed.
