The Legislative Arm of Udu Local Government Council has unanimously endorsed frontline aspirant for the Delta State House of Assembly, Udu Constituency, Hon. Chief Dr. Henry Afure Sakpra during plenary held today Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

The plenary session presided over by the Leader of the House, Hon. Chief Henry Apunu saw members of the legislative Arm throw their weight behind Sakpra’s aspiration citing his track record of performance and commitment to grassroots development during his tenure as the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council.

The motion for his endorsement was moved by Hon. Goddey Sefia, Councillor representing DSIEC Ward 11 and seconded by Hon. Mrs. Elohor Timothy, Councillor representing DSIEC Ward 8.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the endorsement, Hon. Chief Apunu described Sakpra as a man of proven capacity whose contributions to the development of Udu remain visible and impactful.

According to him, “Sakpra has been a good man right from time immemorial When he served as Council Chairman, he built the Legislative House and also constructed the Udu High Court and executed numerous projects across the wards in Udu as he introduced monthly stipends for elderly people in various communities. These are part of the reasons we unanimously adopted him.”

Apunu stressed that the endorsement reflects the confidence of the lawmakers in Sakpra’s ability to effectively represent the people at the State Assembly.

In his response, Hon. Chief Dr. Sakpra, popularly referred to as the “Political Kilimanjaro,” expressed deep appreciation to the legislative arm for the overwhelming support.

He noted that his visit was initially to solicit their backing but was pleasantly surprised by the unanimous endorsement.

“I came to request for their support, recognizing the crucial role they play in grassroots mobilization. But they went beyond that by endorsing me as their sole candidate. This is very encouraging and overwhelming. I am sincerely grateful to God and to the House,” he said.

Sakpra described the endorsement as a motivation to do more for the people, emphasizing that his past achievements have only strengthened his resolve to deliver greater dividends of democracy.

“This endorsement is a springboard for me to do more. The reasons they gave, including projects executed during my tenure as Council Chairman, show that service to the people is always remembered. I am committed to building on this and ensuring greater development for our people,” he added.

The endorsement is seen as a significant boost to Sakpra’s ambition, positioning him strongly ahead of the forthcoming Delta State House of Assembly elections.
