Ayoma Calls for the Revival of Delta Steel Company.

Renowned Urhobo leader, Multiple Chief Freeborn Ayoma, has raised concerns over the deteriorating state of Delta Steel Company (now Premium Steel), describing it as a crucial federal asset in Urhobo land that is on the brink of collapse.

Speaking as a guest at the Inter-House Athletic Competition of Technical High School (DSC), Chief Ayoma made a passionate appeal to key political figures, including Governor Rt. Hon. Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Hon. Reverend Ejiroghene Francis Waive, urging them to intervene and rescue the steel company from total ruin.

He also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the revival of Delta Steel Company, emphasizing that restoring the once-thriving industry would significantly reduce unemployment in Udu Land and Delta State as a whole.

Commissioned in 1980 by former President Shehu Shagari, Delta Steel Company was once hailed as one of the largest steel plants in Africa. However, years of mismanagement, poor policies, and neglect have left the company in a moribund state, preventing it from fulfilling its original purpose of driving industrialization in Nigeria.

Chief Ayoma’s appeal echoes the sentiments of many Urhobo sons and daughters, who believe that revitalizing the steel plant would not only boost economic activities in the region but also create thousands of job opportunities for unemployed youths.

The ball is now in the court of the federal government and stakeholders to act swiftly in rescuing this critical industry from total collapse.
