*As PDP Campaign Train Reaches Olomu Wards 1, 2
By Sunday Apah
The Peoples Democratic Party Chairmanship Candidate for Ughelli South Local Government Council in the upcoming July 13, 2024, Local Government Council election in Delta State, Hon. Dr. Lucky Avweromre, has pledged to revamp the health center, restore electricity, and create employment opportunities for women and youths in Olomu.
Avweromre made this commitment during the visit of the Ughelli South Local Government Area PDP campaign team to wards 1 and 2 of Olomu on Thursday, June 20, 2024, to seek support for the party’s chairmanship and councilorship candidates.
Accompanied by his running mate, Hon. Happiness Umukoro, Avweromre emphasized his educational background, which includes a degree, a master’s, and a PhD in Political Science.
He also highlighted his experience as the former leader of the Ughelli South Local Government Council Legislative Arm, as well as his past roles as Deputy Chief of Staff and in other appointed positions.
These experiences, he believes, have equipped him with the necessary qualifications and skills to lead effectively.
He emphasized that his administration aims to bring positive change to the residents of Ughelli South Local Government Area, ensuring that the interests of youths, women, elders, and all constituents are considered.
Avweromre promised to restore electricity to the area with the help of the state governor and Ughelli South leaders, renovate the health center to ensure quality healthcare for all, and create employment and appointment opportunities for the youths and women.
Earlier, some leaders of Olomu Wards One and Two, including Chief Raymond Temisere, PDP Chairman of Olomu Ward 1, Chief Samuel Ogbotomo, Princess Eguonor Ogbon, Chief Convey Omokeni, Hon. Friday Ijomoni, and others, spoke on behalf of the electorate.
They expressed satisfaction with Avweromre’s candidacy for the July 13th, 2024 LGA election and drummed up support for him and his Vice Chairmanship candidate, Hon. Happiness Umukoro.
The leaders described Avweromre as a humble politician with good behavior and an enviable academic background.
They assured the campaign team and the entire party leadership that the PDP would emerge victorious in the elections in Olomu Wards 1 and 2 on July 13th, 2024.
The leaders further appealed to the Chairmanship candidate and party leaders present to assist in restoring electricity in their area, revitalizing dilapidated health centers, and considering the youth and women for appointive positions.
In their respective remarks, Olorogun John Oguma, the Leader of the PDP in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Hon. Festus Utuama, Member of DTHA and Deputy Director General of the campaign, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, and Chief Michael Oshetigho, the PDP Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the ward members for the overwhelming reception they received.
They affirmed that the PDP is poised to achieve a significant victory on July 13, 2024, as many people have rejected the APC due to the hardships it has imposed on the population.
The leaders pledged to work closely with the party’s Chairmanship Candidate once elected to restore electricity in the area.
During the campaign, the PDP also attracted hundreds of defectors from opposition parties in Olomu wards 1 and 2, led by Mr. Ese Okobia and Comrade Kenneth.
In their speeches while defecting, Mr. Okobia and Kenneth promised, on behalf of the defectors, to collaborate with the PDP to restore the previously enjoyed quality of life in the country.
They appealed to the PDP leaders not to treat them as newcomers or subject them to victimization but to embrace them as integral members of the party.
They provided a 100 percent guarantee to support the party’s candidates on July 13 and to work for the party in 2027.
Upon receiving them, the Chairman of the PDP in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Oshetigho, assured them of equal treatment alongside the existing members.
The highlight of the campaign was when the Local Government Area chairman of the party, Hon. Michael Oshetigho, handed flags to the Councilorship candidates for the wards: Amb. Bright Ovayaro, Comrade Kingsley Ojakorigho, and Comrade Charles Igute.
Among the campaign team were notable figures such as Hon. Dr. Richard Kofi, the immediate past chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council; Mr. Simon Mudi, SSA Protocol to the Governor; Chief Godwin Okporoko; Hon. Henry Abizor; Hon. Maxwell Urhogu; Chief Fidelis Tuvata; Sir Sunday Mrakpor, along with many other leaders.
