Delta LG Bosses, Ogedegbe, Avweromre, Community Leaders Laud UPU Ohio for Multi-Million Naira Medical Equipment Donations to Hospitals
Chairmen of Ethiope East and Ughelli South Local Government Areas, community leaders, healthcare administrators and other stakeholders have commended the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Ohio Chapter, North America, for donating multi-million naira medical equipment to hospitals and providing welfare materials to orphanages across Delta State.
The outreach featured the donation of a state-of-the-art paediatric incubator, electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, autoclave sterilizer, wheelchairs, stretchers, baby cot, weighing scale and other medical equipment to General Hospital, Isiokolo, while Ewu Primary Health Centre received a complete solar power installation capable of powering the entire facility, modern hospital beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, children’s beds, children’s trolley, electronic weighing scales and other essential medical supplies.
UPU Ohio also presented food items, beverages, television sets, decoder systems and other welfare materials to Orem Faith Foundation, Afiesere, Ughelli North Local Government Area and GodsTime Orphanage, Ekete Waterside, Udu Local Government Area.
Speaking during the presentation at General Hospital, Isiokolo, Ethiope East Local Government Chairman, Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe, described the intervention as a thoughtful and impactful contribution to healthcare delivery.
He particularly commended UPU Ohio for responding to the hospital’s specific requests rather than making assumptions about its needs, noting that specialised equipment such as the incubator and ECG machine required substantial financial commitment.
Ogedegbe urged the hospital management to properly maintain and safeguard the equipment, warning that negligence or poor maintenance could discourage future donations. He assured that the local government would continue to support initiatives that improve healthcare services across the area.
Similarly, Ughelli South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dr. Lucky Avweromre, praised the organisation for complementing the efforts of the Federal Government, Delta State Government and the local government in strengthening primary healthcare.
He noted that with 34 primary healthcare centres and 12 health posts serving about 76 communities, partnerships with organisations like UPU Ohio were vital to improving healthcare delivery.
Avweromre called on Urhobo sons and daughters in the diaspora to emulate the example of UPU Ohio by investing in projects that would benefit their communities. He also directed the management of Ewu Primary Health Centre to properly inventory, utilise and maintain all donated equipment.
One of the founding leaders of UPU Ohio, Olorogun Dr. Felix O. Okpe, said the organisation had budgeted over ₦100 million for healthcare missions, orphanage support and human capital development across Urhoboland and other parts of Delta State.
According to him, the request from General Hospital, Isiokolo, stood out because of the specialised equipment required. He explained that the paediatric incubator would provide life-saving care for premature babies, while the electrocardiogram machine would enable doctors diagnose heart-related conditions. He added that the autoclave sterilizer would improve patient safety by ensuring surgical instruments are properly sterilised after every procedure.
UPU Ohio President, Olorogun Dr. Mrs. Louisa Oyoyo Ukochovwera, said the three-day humanitarian outreach was part of activities leading to the chapter’s 33rd North America Convention and underscored the organisation’s commitment to giving back to its homeland.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of General Hospital, Isiokolo, the Hospital Administrator, Eghworo Vigilant Ogheneyore, thanked UPU Ohio for fulfilling the hospital’s request and assured that the equipment would be properly utilised and maintained for the benefit of patients. He also encouraged residents to enrol in the Delta State Health Insurance Scheme to enjoy affordable healthcare.
At Ewu Primary Health Centre, the items were received by the Matron, Mrs. Asiaka Juliet, who expressed appreciation to UPU Ohio for the intervention and pledged that the equipment would be properly managed to improve healthcare services in the community.
Receiving the items on behalf of Orem Faith Foundation, its Proprietor, Simon Peter Ezomon, thanked UPU Ohio for remembering the children and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the organisation and its members.
At GodsTime Orphanage, the donations were jointly received by the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Adu Cecilia Edirukaye, and the Matron, Charles Sandra, who appreciated UPU Ohio for extending love and support to the children under their care.
Community leaders also applauded the initiative. Chairman of Oruakpor Community, Kingsley Ikulbulakwarono, described the donation as timely and beneficial to the people, while the President General of Ewu-Otor, Pastor Ouagba Paulinus, commended the organisation for remembering the community and prayed for greater blessings upon everyone who contributed to the project.
The outreach formed part of UPU Ohio’s humanitarian mission aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, supporting orphanages and improving the welfare of vulnerable communities across Delta State.
