₦400,000 Grants: Sagboje Describes TEP as Game-Changer for Delta Students
In a bold move to deepen youth empowerment and entrepreneurship development, the Delta State Government has launched the Tertiary Entrepreneurship Programme (TEP) at Dennis Osadebe University, with beneficiaries receiving grants of ₦400,000 each to support their business ventures.
The initiative, spearheaded by the administration of Sheriff Oborevwori through the Ministry of Youth Development, is designed to equip students in state-owned tertiary institutions with the financial backing needed to either start or scale up their entrepreneurial pursuits while still in school.
Speaking during the rollout, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Delta State Chapter, through Comrade Sagboje O. M., commended the Governor for what he described as a “visionary and impactful intervention” that prioritizes youth inclusion and economic empowerment.
Sagboje, who delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the youth constituency, applauded the Governor—represented at the event by Johnbull Nyerhovwo Tonukari—for demonstrating purposeful leadership that translates policies into tangible benefits for young people across the state.
He also lauded the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Trakiriowei Harry ThankGod, for his dedication and commitment to ensuring effective implementation of youth-centered policies.
According to Sagboje, the TEP goes beyond ceremonial significance, describing it as a strategic investment in the future of Delta youths. He noted that the financial grants provided to students reflect the government’s resolve to nurture a generation of innovators, job creators, and self-reliant leaders capable of driving socio-economic growth.
“At a time when many young Nigerians are in search of opportunities, Delta State is deliberately creating them. This programme is a clear demonstration that this administration is committed to action, not just rhetoric,” he said.
While expressing appreciation to the state government, Sagboje urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, emphasizing discipline, accountability, and innovation as key to sustaining the initiative’s impact.
He further appealed for the expansion and continuity of the programme to accommodate more young people with viable ideas and skills, noting that many are still eager for opportunities to unlock their full potential.
The Tertiary Entrepreneurship Programme is part of the Oborevwori administration’s broader agenda to promote inclusive development, reduce youth unemployment, and foster economic resilience across Delta State.
