Akpobi To Young Deltans: Step Forward And Lead Ahead Of 2027
By Henry Ubus.
Comrade Elvis Akpobi, Senior Special Assistant on Youths Mentoring and Development to the Executive Governor and Coordinator of the Not Too Young to Lead Initiative, has called on young people in Delta State to actively participate in leadership and governance as the 2027 elections approach.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Akpobi emphasized that Delta State is at a critical turning point, noting that the issue is not a lack of leaders but the need for more prepared and capable ones. He highlighted that many of today’s leaders began their journeys in their late twenties, stressing that the current generation must now rise to the occasion.
According to him, young people with character and competence should no longer remain passive observers but must step forward, contest, and serve. He stressed that legislative spaces such as the State Houses of Assembly and the National Assembly should reflect the energy, innovation, and integrity of the younger generation, as these institutions shape policies that determine the future.
Akpobi also appealed to older political leaders to play a more supportive role in nurturing emerging talents. He acknowledged their contributions in building the state but urged them to create opportunities for the next generation by mentoring, supporting, and trusting young leaders.
He further noted that empowering youth is essential for sustainable development, adding that any state that invests in its young population secures its future.
Addressing aspiring young leaders directly, Akpobi encouraged them to prepare adequately, build capacity, and remain grounded in strong values. He urged them to begin positioning themselves strategically ahead of the 2027 elections with the resolve to run for office, lead effectively, and drive meaningful transformation.
“This is our time,” he declared, reinforcing the call with the hashtag #THISISOURTIME, signaling a renewed push for youth inclusion in governance across Delta State.
