Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, has reiterated that the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration remains firmly committed to prioritizing the welfare and wellbeing of Deltans, despite the heavy developmental responsibilities before the government.

Ahon stated this on Thursday, December 25, 2025, when the Executive Council of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy visit at his country home in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

He noted that the current administration has demonstrated genuine concern for the people through its investment in capital projects and welfare programmes, stressing that such initiatives reflect the governor’s sincere desire to improve living standards across the state.

“The governor has done more in two years than what other governors have done in eight years, even in other states. The projects we are undertaking are those that will stand the test of time and outlive our generation. We must give Deltans value. The governor will not compromise the welfare of Deltans, and in all the projects he is doing, there is no borrowing,” the CPS said.

Ahon expressed appreciation to the state NUJ leadership for the courtesy visit and urged journalists to continue supporting the state government in promoting peace, development and good governance. According to him, peaceful coexistence remains the backbone of progress and effective governance.

“We will continue to make efforts to improve the lot of journalists in the state. My principal, the governor, is media-friendly. We need your continued support for the government. When there is peace, more progress can be made,” he added.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, who led the delegation from Asaba, commended Ahon for his sustained support to journalists and the recent gesture of Christmas gifts that reached all chapels of the Union across the state.

He appealed for continued partnership and reminded the CPS of the Union’s earlier requests for a bus and a generator for the state secretariat.

“Today, we are celebrating. All chapels in the state have been touched by your magnanimity. We felt it was important to come and express our gratitude. May God bless you for all you have been doing,” Oyowe said.

In response, Ahon assured that he would follow up on the outstanding requests and maintained that his doors remain open to the NUJ at all times.
