Ogwashi-Uku Poly Non-Academic Staff, NASU, SSANIP Against ASUP’s Two-Week Warning Strike

The leadership of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Non-Academic Staff Unions of NASU AND SSANIP, have stood against ASUP’s ongoing ASUP’s warning strike, describing it as baseless and inconsequential.

The Unions had by this notice wished to inform the general public that they should completely ignoreThe the two-weeks strike action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) as it does not capture the feelings of staff members.

The statement jointly signed by the Chairman of NASU and Joint Unions of Polytechnics, Comrade Andrew Ayewumi, and Chairman of SSANIP and Secretary of the Joint Unions of Polytechnics, Comrade Emeke Owabor Godchoice, said the Unions viewed ASUP’s decision on the strike as unnecessary and not the best approach to addressing the issues affecting staff at the Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic.

Comrade Ayewumi Andrew and Comrade Emeke Owabor Godchoice emphasized that the Non-Academic Staff Union believe in dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes rather than actions that could disrupt the smooth running of academic and administrative activities in the institution.

Consequently, the leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union has directed all its members to continue with their lawful duties and ensure that academic and administrative operations within the Polytechnic proceed without interruption.

The Union further clarified that the decision by ASUP, Ogwashi-Uku Chapter, to embark on a strike was not a collective decision involving all unions within the institution. Therefore, the Non-Academic Staff Union should not be associated with or seen as part of the action.

The Non-Academic Staff Unions have no unresolved issues with the management or the Governing Council of the Polytechnic that would justify joining any industrial action.

“We as leaders of our respective responsible Unions maintain our neutral position geared towards the peaceful resolution of issues that will not disrupt normal activities within the institution.”
