SEN. EDE DAFINONE’S 2025 URHOBO LANGUAGE COMPETITION IN MEMORY OF SEN. PIUS AKPOR EWHERIDO

The Urhobo Studies Association (USA), with the support of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Abuja, Sen. Ede Dafinone, is set to host the 2025 Urhobo Language Competition in memory of the Late Sen. Pius Akpor Ewherido. The competition seeks to promote and preserve the Urhobo language by encouraging pupils and students to express themselves in both spoken and written forms.

Open to participants from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across Nigeria, particularly within Delta Central Senatorial District, the contest will be held in three stages. The first round comes up on October 18, 2025, at Delta State University, Abraka; Urhobo College, Effurun; and Government College, Ughelli. Successful contestants will proceed to the second stage on November 8, 2025, at DELSU Abraka, while the grand finale takes place on November 22, 2025, also at DELSU, Abraka.

Attractive cash prizes await winners in all three categories. Tertiary-level champions will receive ₦700,000, ₦500,000, and ₦300,000 for first, second, and third places respectively. Secondary school winners will earn ₦300,000, ₦200,000, and ₦100,000, while the same prizes apply to the primary school category.

The award of prizes will be done at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho during the 2025 UPU Day celebrations in the 1st week of December.
