Residents and indigenes of Ughelli Kingdom gathered in large numbers on Saturday to mark the 15th edition of the kingdom’s annual Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, a spiritual exercise that has continued to serve as a strong symbol of unity and collective hope.

The event attracted clergy, church leaders, traditional chiefs, youth organisations, and community stakeholders from across the kingdom’s 23 communities. Participants engaged in praise, prayers, and reflections, creating an atmosphere filled with renewed optimism for peace and development.

Speaking at the gathering, the President of Ughelli Day of Prayer, Bishop Dr. Kingsley Enakirerhi, described the 15-year journey of the programme as evidence of divine guidance and sustained communal commitment. He explained that this year’s theme, “Divine Visitation,” was selected to reflect the people’s aspirations for progress, peace, and meaningful breakthroughs.

He commended the Ovie of the kingdom, Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III, the Traditional Council, Ughelli Descendants Union, and church leaders for their continued collaboration in sustaining the annual initiative. Enakirerhi also disclosed that preparations have commenced for the 16th edition scheduled for January 23, 2027.

In his remarks, the monarch stressed that spiritual unity remains vital to the kingdom’s growth and stability. He urged residents and indigenes to remain actively involved in the yearly prayer programme, noting that its establishment was inspired by a similar initiative he observed in a neighbouring community.

As part of the activities, the royal father led prayers at key locations across Ekiugbo, including major streets, roundabouts, and marketplaces, symbolising a collective appeal for divine direction in all aspects of community life.

Delivering a homily, Venerable Charles Badawusi called for stronger cooperation among Christian bodies in the kingdom, emphasizing that unity of purpose would enhance efforts toward peace and prosperity. He encouraged believers to remain steadfast, describing divine visitation as a life-transforming encounter.

Also speaking, the President-General of the kingdom, Chief Samuel Akpemegi, urged residents to continue supporting the monarch’s vision, describing the annual prayer gathering as a crucial platform for communal development.

Earlier, the Izomo of Ughelli Kingdom, High Chief Sunday Ogheneovo Adams, praised the monarch for initiating the programme, noting that it has recorded notable achievements since its inception, including progress in infrastructure such as the Otovwodo Flyover.

Chairman of the organising committee, Venerable Isaiah Ogue, acknowledged the challenges involved in coordinating the large-scale event but expressed satisfaction with its success, stating that this year’s outcome provides a solid foundation for future editions.

Among supporters of the programme was Evangelist Friday Ushirhe, Chief Executive Officer of Godsown Hotel, who commended the monarch’s leadership and encouraged broader participation, noting that the initiative has contributed positively to the kingdom’s stability and development.

The event concluded with special thanksgiving and praise sessions, as the people of Ughelli once again reaffirmed their commitment to building their kingdom on faith, unity, and collective progress.
