Produce Cultists or Face Arrest, Udu LGC Warns Community Leaders
The Udu Local Government Council Security Committee has resolved to hold community leadership directly accountable for cult related violence, as part of decisive measures to curb the rising wave of cult clashes.
The resolution was reached yesterday Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the end of an enlarged security meeting presided over by the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA, at his office in Otor-Udu.
According to the resolution, any community where a cult clash occurs will have its Community President and executive members arrested if they fail to produce the culprits involved within one week of the incident.
Speaking during the security meeting, the Udu Council Boss, Oyibode described the decision as a necessary and timely response to the deteriorating security situation in some parts of the local government, notably Aladja, Orhuwhorun, Egiegi, Oghior, and other affected communities.
The council chairman stressed that community leaders can no longer claim ignorance or distance themselves from criminal activities within their jurisdictions. He stated that going forward, community presidents and executive members are expected to provide credible intelligence, identify cultists, effect their arrest where possible, and promptly hand them over to security agencies, particularly the police.
“Failure to do so will be regarded as a clear failure of leadership,” Oyibode warned, adding that any leadership found wanting will be made to “face the music.”
He emphasized that the resolution was unanimously adopted by members of the enlarged local government security council as part of a renewed determination to restore peace, strengthen grassroots security architecture, and end the reign of cult-related violence in Udu Local Government Area.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and security, the chairman assured that the council will continue to work closely with all security agencies, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property across Udu.
The meeting was attended by representatives of all security agencies operating in Udu, Union of Udu Communities (UUC) President, religious leaders, and other critical stakeholders in the local government’s security framework.
