NUJ Delta Council Begins New Leadership Chapter with Thanksgiving…Oyowe, Executives Pray for Progress and a United Union
By Henry Ubus
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, held a thanksgiving service to appreciate God Almighty for the successful conduct of the council’s recent election and seek divine wisdom, guidance and protection for the new administration.
The State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, led members of the newly elected State Executive and other members of the union to the service, which was dedicated to expressing gratitude to God for the successful electoral process and committing the new leadership to His care.
The thanksgiving service also provided an opportunity for the new administration to seek God’s direction as it begins another tenure of leadership, with a commitment to strengthening the union, promoting unity among members and advancing journalists’ welfare across Delta State.
Oyowe and members of his executive expressed appreciation for God’s faithfulness throughout the electoral process, while praying for a peaceful, united and prosperous tenure characterised by purposeful leadership, accountability and meaningful progress.
The new administration is expected to build on the collective aspirations of members by prioritising improved welfare, professional development, unity and the protection of journalists’ interests.
The service further underscored the importance of gratitude, humility and spiritual guidance in leadership, particularly as the council embarks on a new chapter following the keenly contested NUJ Delta State Council election.
The chairman and members of the council prayed for God’s continued protection over journalists in the state and for the wisdom to discharge their responsibilities in ways that would strengthen the union and promote the ideals of responsible journalism.
The thanksgiving service ended with a renewed expression of gratitude to God, with the new leadership entrusting its administration to His guidance and seeking His blessings for a successful and impactful tenure.
