Gov Oborevwori Hails Adesuwa-Uadiale Foundation As NGO Commissions Toilets, Borehole, Distributes School Bags

The Delta State Government has commended the Adesuwa-Uadiale Foundation for its massive investment in basic education, describing the intervention as a perfect example of the public-private partnership needed to grow the education sector.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori gave the commendation on Tuesday at the Foundation’s Annual 2026 Back-to-School Programme held at Ughievwen Model Primary School, Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South LGA and Unuame Primary School, Ovu in Ethiope East LGA.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief Mrs. Rose Ezewu, JP, through Dr. Michael Emeshili, said the Foundation’s gesture aligns seamlessly with his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

The Foundation commissioned a block of five modern toilets, a fully reticulated pipe-borne water facility with overhead tanks, and donated over 2,000 school bags, books, water bottles and other writing materials to pupils of the two schools.

Delivering the Governor’s keynote address, Ezewu said: “This year’s programme, which goes beyond the distribution of educational materials to include safe drinking water and improved sanitation facilities, demonstrates a commendable understanding of what it takes to create an environment where children can learn effectively and thrive.

“Government has continued to invest in basic education because we recognize that the foundation laid at the primary school level has a lasting impact on the future of every child. However, education is not the responsibility of government alone. It is a shared responsibility.”

She noted that the Oborevwori administration has focused on infrastructure overhaul, digital integration, teacher capacity development, payroll sanitisation and provision of free learning materials, but government alone cannot address every challenge.

“We therefore want partnerships that are sustainable and aligned with the educational priorities of Delta State. The Adesuwa-Uadiale Foundation has shown that lasting progress is achieved when individuals and organisations choose to invest in children,” she said.

The Governor charged pupils to make judicious use of the materials, attend school regularly and dream big, saying their background should not limit their aspirations. He urged teachers to remain builders of future generations and parents to support regular school attendance.

He also charged the school management and communities to protect the facilities: “What is provided through partnership must be protected through collective responsibility. Let us ensure that the water facilities remain functional, the toilet facilities are properly maintained, and the learning materials reach the children for whom they were intended.”

Also speaking for the government, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, represented by the Education Secretary of Ughelli South, Comrade Abido Samuel, said the intervention promotes health, especially for the girl-child, and ensures access to safe drinking water to keep waterborne diseases at bay.

Mariere described the Foundation’s sacrifice as a true mark of visionary leadership and prayed that God would replenish its resources a thousandfold.

In their goodwill message, the founders of the Foundation, Prof. Michael and Dr. Enojare Uadiale, represented by Pagaebi Beregha, Esq., said the Foundation was born out of the loss of their daughter, Adesuwa, who lived for only five days.

“We could not change what happened to Adesuwa, but we could decide what happens because of Adesuwa. If we could no longer buy school supplies for our daughter, we would provide them for another child. If we could no longer watch her walk into a classroom, we could help another child remain in one,” Beregha said.

The Foundation explained that the choice of Unuame Primary School, Ovu, was sentimental because their grandmother, Chief Mrs. Cecilia Uvwo, attended the school in 1948.

Chief Mrs. Uvwo, in her goodwill message, said she was happy that her granddaughter’s name is still making an impact across schools and orphanages.

Earlier in his remarks, the Project Manager of the Foundation, Mr. Efe Eka, said: “The Foundation was founded by my family, my parents, and Adesuwa is my sister. We are here today because of my grandmother, Chief Mrs. Cecilia Uvwo. For me, it’s about the children. Primary school pupils are at their formative age, so it is best that they are provided with the best possible materials to learn. Doing it at home today is a thing of pride for me.”

Head teachers of the beneficiary schools, Miss Oghara Caroline Ovoke of Unuame Primary School and Mrs. God’sglory Igho Okoro of Ughievwen Model Primary School, thanked the State Government and the Foundation, noting that the intervention was the first of its kind and would greatly improve learning.

The highpoint of the event was the official commissioning of the projects by the Governor’s representative and the distribution of learning materials to pupils who sang and danced in appreciation of the Foundation.
