By Philip Onome
The 2023 Delta State Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party, Deacon Kenny Pela, has eulogised Rev. Kome Okerri Ph.D who launched a book titled, ‘EHWA’, Female Rites of Passage of Isoko People.
Pela who was the Chairman and Chief Launcher at the Rev. Kome Okerri Ph.D, Book titled; ‘Ehwa’ Female Rites of Passage of Isoko People, held at the Women’s Hall of St. Paul’s Anglican Church Oleh Dioceses, recommended the book to Isoko nation and Deltans to rebuild a moral foundation of righteousness.
Pela who was accompanied to the Book launch by top dignitaries said;
“Today, I am here at the public presentation of Rev. Kome G.U. Okerri Ph.D ‘EHWA’ Female Rites of Passage of Isoko People. The Book which is a result of his Ph.D research makes the Book launch more interesting because to go through the process of a Ph.D research that was approved for the purpose of awarding a Ph.D degree is not easy.”
“We should emulate people like Dr. Okerri. The vices in our society today are so much that people are going astray. In this present day were the government alot of times is not living up to their responsibilities, we have people moving away from education, moving away into cultism, moving into different vices and that can not be allowed to continue. So I am glad that Rev. (Dr) Kome G.U. Okerri went ahead to publish the book.”
“A lot of us do our thesis for whatever degrees and they will talk them away; so the fact that he (Okerri) has gone ahead to publish, is very commendable; and it is a very important topic because our values are fact eroding in the society”.
He added; “I didn’t even know something like this existed in Isoko land. People jump in and out of marriages because the foundation is not laid; so I highly recommend this book to the Isoko people and to Deltans in general. We need to begin to rebuild our moral foundations in Delta. When I ran for governor, I ran on the bases of building a foundation of rightousness.”
“So we need to have the right things and the right foundations for us to build a kind of society that we would want to leave to our children and children’s children.” He noted.
Meanwhile, Rev. Kome Okerri Ph.D, in his presentation, said book title; ‘EHWA’ is a female rites of passage by isoko people of Delta state which is aimed at equipping young women of marriageable ages with requisite skills and knowledge that enables them cope with their responsibilities as wives and mothers and also be able to make meaningful contributions to their various Communities.
He added that the book is a compilation of his in-depth research findings of theoretical understandings and personal observations of an insider perspectives of narrations.
