Police Intensify Rescue Efforts As Sapele LGA Chairman Is Abducted
The Delta State Police Command has stepped up efforts to secure the safe release of the abducted Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, following a high-level operational visit by the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi.
The police boss, during an on-the-spot assessment in Sapele on April 11, 2026, inspected key locations linked to the incident as part of coordinated efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction. Among the sites visited was Debro Fred Guest House, where the incident reportedly occurred, as well as Ogorode Waterside, where the suspected getaway vehicle used by the abductors was recovered.
In a show of concern and solidarity, the Commissioner also visited the wife of the abducted chairman, assuring her of the Command’s unwavering commitment to securing her husband’s safe and unharmed release. He further extended his visit to medical facilities where victims injured during the attack are currently receiving treatment.
Speaking during the visit, Oyeniyi reaffirmed that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have deployed adequate personnel and resources to track down the perpetrators. He disclosed that intelligence-driven operations are ongoing, with efforts focused on ensuring the victim is rescued without harm.
The Commissioner urged residents of Sapele and Delta State at large to remain calm but vigilant, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in providing timely and credible information that could aid the investigation.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to bring those responsible for the crime to justice.
