Royal Intervention: Udu Monarch Donates Medical Items To FMC Ovwian
31/03/2026
It was a truly touching moment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ovwian yesterday Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Engr. Michael Ogheneovo Orugbo, JP, KP, Okporua I, fulfilled his promise to support healthcare in the kingdom.
Although the monarch was unavoidably absent, he was ably represented by his wife, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Sarah Orugbo, a seasoned retired nurse who led the royal delegation to deliver the donation.
This visit followed the monarch’s earlier engagement with the hospital on March 12, 2026, where he pledged ₦5 million worth of medical supplies to boost the facility’s capacity and improve service delivery.
Speaking during the presentation, Queen Sarah Orugbo conveyed the goodwill of the throne and the deep concern of His Royal Majesty for the wellbeing of the people. In her words, the donation is part of a broader effort by the palace to strengthen healthcare across Udu Kingdom, noting that similar support has been extended to other health centres in the area.
She emphasized that the drugs are meant to ease the burden on patients, especially the vulnerable, and should be used responsibly and strictly for their intended purpose. She also encouraged the hospital to ensure the medicines remain accessible to those who truly need them, describing the initiative as one that should help sustain drug availability over time.
The Queen further appreciated both the Federal and Delta State Governments for their roles in establishing and supporting the facility, while also commending the management and staff of FMC Ovwian for their resilience and dedication despite ongoing challenges.
In his response, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kingsley Akaba, expressed sincere gratitude to the monarch and the royal family for their generosity and continued support.
Prof. Akaba assured that the donated supplies would be properly managed and used to improve patient care.
The visit ended with the formal handover of the medical items and a guided tour of the hospital, where the royal delegation observed firsthand the services being rendered across different departments.
Beyond the donation itself, the visit was a strong reminder of how much impact purposeful leadership and community support can have, especially in critical areas like healthcare.
