Oyibode Has Utilized Government Funds Judiciously – Commissioner Commends Projects In Udu.

The Delta State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Kelly Kalanama Penawou, has commended the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun(Hon.),
Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA for his prudent management of public funds and impactful delivery of development projects.

Prince Penawou gave the commendation yesterday Monday, March 16, 2026 during an official inspection tour of ongoing and completed projects executed by the Oyibode-led administration in Udu Local Government Area.

After touring several project sites, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the quality, pace and scope of development describing Oyibode as a proactive and resourceful leader committed to grassroots transformation.

“I can say that I Vincent Oyibode, he is a very brilliant man and he has done very, very well. I have gone round the projects and they are all very good. He has utilized the funds judiciously. I can say that for free,” Penawou stated.

He noted that the level of infrastructural and administrative progress recorded under the current leadership has set a commendable benchmark for local government administration in Delta State. He further urged the people of Udu and political stakeholders to continue supporting government initiatives to ensure sustained development and peaceful democratic processes.

“I believe the Udu people know that Oyibode understands what he is doing. I expect them to reciprocate by supporting government efforts so that at the end of the day, we will have a seamless election,” he added.

On his part, the Udu Council Chairman,Oyibode appreciated the Commissioner for the visit and provided updates on ongoing and completed projects within the council.

He disclosed that several projects, including the Executive Chairman’s office are nearing completion with furnishing and installation of facilities already in progress. He emphasized that the construction of a Divisional Police Headquarters remains a top priority noting that it will significantly strengthen the security architecture in the area.

Oyibode also revealed that the council is engaging financial institutions to establish bank branches within Udu, adding that land has already been allocated to facilitate the initiative.

He appreciated the Delta State Government for approving key road projects such as the Udu/ECN Road and Udu Harbour Market Road, stressing that they would improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the Chairman noted that funds have been released to all the twenty councillors for constituency projects. He added that a comprehensive drainage clearing and desilting exercise has been carried out across communities to prevent flooding and improve environmental health.

He further emphasized the prompt and consistent payment of workers salaries, clearance of outstanding arrears, and timely payment of pensions to retirees as part of efforts to boost morale and uphold the welfare of workers and senior citizens.

On peace and governance, Oyibode stated that his administration has successfully ended factional leadership within the Udu Union of Communities (UUC) ensuring a unified and recognized leadership structure. He added that sustained engagement with community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders has strengthened peace and cooperation across the local government.

The Chairman highlighted key interventions that have restored peace in previously conflict prone communities such as Okpaka, Opete, and Ogbe-Udu as well as ongoing peacebuilding efforts between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijaw communities.

Other notable achievements include the revival of the Udu Local Government farm to boost food production, payment of long-standing project debts including those related to the Udu Central Motor Park and the first-ever proper survey and documentation of the Council Secretariat.

He also listed the provision of official vehicles to key council officials, improved sanitation enforcement across communities and his commitment to administrative efficiency, noting that he maintains a disciplined daily work schedule.

Looking ahead, Oyibode assured that the 2026 budget contains robust provisions for empowerment programmes expected to commence in September.

“We have enough in this year’s budget for empowerment programmes. It is going to be massive, and we will continue to engage our people meaningfully,” he said.

Projects inspected during the tour include the concrete rigid pavement construction along the Udu–ECN Road (Daddy Bakery axis to Ovwian Secondary School) a fully completed and furnished chapel at the Council Secretariat, a modern Chairman’s office, and the ongoing construction of the Executive Chairman’s residential quarters.

Also inspected was the multi-structure Udu Divisional Police Headquarters project, which comprises an administrative block, DPO’s quarters, DCO quarters, junior staff quarters, and a cell block designed to enhance security operations.

Other sites visited include the renovated Orhuwhorun Roundabout featuring the Udu Mother statue, and Ujevwu Community, where plans are underway for the construction of an ultra-modern community hall.

The inspection tour is a testament of the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development, positioning Udu Local Government as a model of effective grassroots governance in Delta State.
