Renewed Hope Initiative: Udu Council Distributes Sanitary Pads To 320 School Girls To Promote Menstrual Hygiene.
As part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, sanitary pads have been distributed to school girls in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State in a collaborative effort aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene, health awareness, and confidence among young girls.
The initiative carried out in collaboration with the First Lady of Delta State, DCNS Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori and the wife of the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, DCNS Mrs. Abies Oyibode, targeted selected girls from all Government secondary schools across the local government area.
Speaking during the programme held today Monday, March 16, 2026, the Information Officer of Udu Local Government Council, Mrs. Ufuoma Ajuwa explained that the initiative was designed to educate young girls, particularly those in rural communities on menstrual health and hygiene.
According to her the programme also seeks to guide the girl child with the right information to help them understand the natural changes in their bodies while building confidence and self-esteem.
Delivering a health talk at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Udu Health Authority Dr. Mrs. Mercy Oghoro described menstruation as a natural biological process that signifies the transition into womanhood.
She encouraged the girls not to feel ashamed or afraid of menstruation, stressing that proper education and awareness would help them manage it confidently and hygienically. She further advised parents and guardians to begin early discussions with their daughters about menstrual health to adequately prepare them for the changes associated with puberty.
In her remarks, the First Lady of Udu Local Government Council, DCNS Mrs. Abies Oyibode noted that the programme was the initiative of the first Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in collaboration with wife of Delta State Governor was designed to ensure that no girl misses school because of a lack of sanitary products.
She disclosed that 320 school girls in Udu Local Government area benefited from the initiative with each recipient receiving a pack containing 12 sanitary pads that will last them for one year to promote hygiene and reduce absenteeism in schools.
Mrs. Oyibode encouraged the girls to remain confident focus on their education and embrace their growth into responsible young women.
In his closing remarks, the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to programmes that promote education, health awareness, and the overall well-being of young people in the area.
The event concluded with the distribution of sanitary pads to the beneficiaries, reinforcing the message that every girl deserves the dignity, confidence, and support needed to pursue her education without barriers.
