The newly sworn-in Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Prince (Dr.) Matthias Ogbagah, has promised to strengthen peace, unity, and professionalism within the chapel as he officially assumed office.
Speaking shortly after his inauguration on Thursday, Ogbagah expressed deep gratitude to members of the chapel and the wider NUJ community for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the day marked a significant milestone for journalists under the Ughelli Correspondents Chapel.
With humility, he appreciated all who graced the occasion, stating that their presence demonstrated a shared commitment to the growth of the union.
According to him, the chapel has earned a reputation as one of the most peaceful and progressive in Delta State a legacy he vowed to uphold and expand.
“The Ughelli Correspondents Chapel has long been known for peace, unity, and professionalism. Under my leadership, we will work even harder to ensure that this legacy is not only sustained but strengthened,” Ogbagah said.
He emphasized that his victory was a collective one, urging all members to support his administration through cooperation, constructive ideas, and openness. He stressed the importance of avoiding internal conflicts, describing them as counterproductive to the progress of any institution.
“If you have ideas or innovations that can promote the image or effectiveness of this chapel, please bring them forward. My leadership will be open, inclusive, and receptive,” he assured.
The new chairman highlighted the need to move forward as a united family, avoiding past challenges while embracing professionalism and camaraderie in their daily practice.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to building a stronger, more vibrant chapel that will stand as a reference point for other NUJ chapters across the state.
“Together, we will build. Together, we will grow. Together, we will succeed,” he declared to the applause of members.
Comrade Matthias Ogbagah will steer the affairs of the Ughelli Correspondents Chapel for the next three years.
