Delta NYCN Boss Sagboje Joins National Leaders in Lagos, Charts Fresh Path For Youth Inclusion

The State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Delta State Council, Comrade Sagboje Odiri Milton, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening youth leadership and expanding opportunities for Delta youths following his participation in a four-day national leadership retreat held in Lagos State.

The retreat, which ran from Saturday, November 22 to Wednesday, November 26, 2025, brought together all 36 State Chairmen of the NYCN and their FCT counterpart. Organized by the NYCN Forum of States Chairmen, the programme focused on deepening collaboration, evaluating the state of youth leadership structures, and enhancing strategic capacities for national development.

Describing the retreat as “a moment of reflection, renewed energy, and brotherhood,” Comrade Milton said the engagements, shared experiences, and collective vision displayed by the State Chairmen proved that youth leadership in Nigeria is rising stronger and more united than ever.

The delegation paid inspiring visits to the palaces of the Oniru of Iru Kingdom and the Osolo of Isolo, where they received royal counsel centered on responsible leadership, community development, and the critical role of traditional institutions in supporting Nigeria’s youth population.

A major highlight of the retreat was the visit to the Lagos Waterways Authority (LASWA), where the team toured the modern water transportation facilities. Comrade Milton described LASWA’s innovative system as “a model of people-centered planning and a clear demonstration of what purposeful leadership can achieve.” He emphasized that lessons from LASWA would help states explore sustainable transport systems to improve mobility and economic growth.

The group also visited TVC Headquarters at the futuristic Eko Atlantic City. Discussions with the management team centered on combating fake news, promoting civic awareness, and exploring media partnerships that will empower young people with accurate information—an essential resource for democracy, peace, and national development.

Similarly, a strategic session with the Honourable Commissioner and top officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development provided deeper insights into programme design, youth engagement, and avenues for inter-state collaboration.

Comrade Milton expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development; and the Chairman of the Chairmen Forum, Engr. Ibrahim Adigun, for their warm reception and exceptional coordination.

Back home, the NYCN Delta Chairman extended gratitude to the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose youth-focused policies continue to inspire NYCN’s programmes. He also appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei, and the Ministry for their solid partnership with the Council.

Comrade Milton assured Delta youths that the knowledge, networks, and strategic insights from the retreat will translate into more impactful initiatives, expanded opportunities, and enhanced youth representation in governance across Delta State.

He reiterated the Council’s determination to build a Delta where every young person has a voice, a place, and a future, in line with the Renewed Hope for More Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“Build the Youth, Build the Nation,” he declared.
