Udu Council Warns Fraudsters Over Illegal Shop Allocation at Udu Harbour Market
The Udu Local Government Council has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups allegedly extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of allocating shops at the Udu Harbour Market.
In a special announcement released through the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Comr. Henry Ubus, the Council stated that it has come to the notice of the Executive Chairman, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP, FCIA, and the leadership of the Delta State Government, particularly the Ministry of Trade and Investment, that some criminal elements have begun collecting money from the public under false pretences.
The statement clarified that the Udu Harbour Market is still under construction and has not yet been commissioned by the State Government. Therefore, neither the Udu Local Government Council nor the Delta State Government has held any meeting or made any arrangement for the allocation of shops to traders.
“The market is yet to be completed, and only after its official commissioning by the State Government will due process be followed in allocating shops,” the statement emphasized.
The Council also categorically stated that no management team, committee, or market master has been appointed to oversee or handle any form of shop allocation. Members of the public were strongly cautioned not to pay money to anyone claiming to allocate shops at the Udu Harbour Market, as such individuals are fraudsters.
The Council further warned that those engaging in such fraudulent and criminal activities should desist immediately or risk facing the full wrath of the law, as security agencies have been alerted to track and arrest perpetrators.
Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Oyibode expressed appreciation to His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, and to all residents who have continued to cooperate with the government to ensure the market project progresses smoothly. He reiterated that his administration remains committed to due process, transparency, and accountability in all its dealings.
Members of the public are therefore advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities related to the Udu Harbour Market to the Udu Local Government Council, the Delta State Ministry of Trade and Investment, or the nearest Police Station.
