UDU YOUTH CLUSTER FARMING INITIATIVE UNVEILED TO EMPOWER YOUTHS THROUGH AGRICULTURE

By Henry Ubus

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Udu Chapter, has officially unveiled the UDU YOUTH CLUSTER FARMING INITIATIVE, a transformative agricultural project aimed at empowering young people with practical farming skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.

The initiative, according to the leadership of the council, is more than just a farming programme—it is a strategic movement designed to redefine the role of youths in agriculture, while addressing pressing issues such as youth unemployment, food insecurity, and rural-urban migration.

Speaking during the launch of the project, the NYCN Udu Chapter emphasized that the Cluster Farming Initiative represents a bold step towards job creation, youth empowerment, and national development, in line with global trends on sustainable agriculture and economic diversification.

“This project is not just about farming. It’s about cultivating a new mindset, a new economy, and a new future for our youths. Agriculture is the new oil, and we want our young people to be at the centre of that revolution,” the NYCN Udu leadership stated.

Key objectives of the UDU YOUTH CLUSTER FARMING INITIATIVE include:

  • Provision of access to land and modern farming tools for participating youths
  • Hands-on training in smart, sustainable agricultural practices
  • Boosting local food production and promoting agribusiness opportunities
  • Reducing unemployment and social vices by engaging youths productively
  • Fostering youth leadership in the agricultural value chain

The initiative will be implemented in clusters across strategic locations in Udu Local Government Area, with plans to scale it up in the near future.

The Council has called on government agencies, NGOs, private individuals, corporate organizations, and agricultural stakeholders to support the initiative through sponsorship, mentorship, and technical assistance.

“Together, let us sow seeds of transformation so we can harvest a better tomorrow,” the Council urged.

God bless Udu. God bless Delta State. God bless Nigeria.
