2027: Delta ADC Dismisses Allegations of Ogboru Working For Oborevwori, Charges Critics To Show Proof or Forever Remain Silent
The Delta State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed an unfounded and baseless allegations that its governorship hopeful, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, has an alliance with the Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Fred Akpewe, the party has challenged critics to show proof, evidence or forever remain silence, saying that allegations are lies from the pit of hell, mostly when there are no established facts or substantiate claim.
The party noted that Chief Ogboru’s political journey in Delta State has been marked by repeated participation in the struggle for political leadership and his advocacy for a different direction in the governance of the state.
According to the ADC, any allegation suggesting that his political activities are designed to advance the interests of the incumbent administration must, therefore, be supported by verifiable facts rather than conjecture, suspicion or political gossip.
The party said in a democratic environment, political actors are entitled to express opinions, question the conduct of public figures and scrutinise political relationships, but stressed that there is a clear distinction between legitimate political scrutiny and the circulation of unsubstantiated allegations capable of misleading the public.
The ADC challenged those making the insinuations to provide concrete evidence.
“What specific agreement has Chief Ogboru entered into with Governor Oborevwori? What verifiable action demonstrates that he is working to advance the governor’s political interests? Without satisfactory answers to these questions, the allegations remain claims requiring proof, not facts that the public should automatically accept,” the statement queried.
The party further stated that political engagement, public appearances or the willingness to participate in discussions across party lines should not, by themselves, be interpreted as evidence of a secret political alliance, adding that in a democracy, dialogue and engagement are not synonymous with political surrender or collusion.
The ADC said its political position and Chief Ogboru’s stated intentions should be assessed on the basis of their publicly declared commitments, policies, actions and verifiable records, and that where questions arise, they should be addressed through facts and transparent explanations rather than speculation about hidden motives.
The party stressed that Delta State deserves a political discourse centred on poverty alleviation, employment creation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, electricity, industrial development and accountable governance, and that public conversation should focus on competing ideas, policy proposals and the evidence available to citizens, rather than allowing unverified allegations to overshadow substantive issues.
“Those who believe that Chief Ogboru is working for Governor Oborevwori should present whatever evidence they possess and allow the public to examine it. Equally, supporters of Chief Ogboru should remain open to legitimate questions and respond with facts, clarity and transparency,” the party added.
The party maintained that until credible evidence is presented, the insinuations that Chief Great Ogboru is working for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should be treated as unsubstantiated allegations, not established facts.
The ADC recalled that in an interview published by the Vanguard on April 22, 2023, Ogboru directly addressed allegations that he had been financially induced to support the then PDP candidate after the governorship election. He vehemently denied receiving money or being bought over.
The statement added that Ogboru explained that he had congratulated Governor Oborevwori because he believed at the time it was appropriate to acknowledge the declared winner, but that peculiar situation in 2023 should not be presented as having a direct application in the 2027 election.
It noted that Chief Great Ogboru has again stated in different fora this year, 2026 and made a defence of his political independence, far removed from any modicum of political connection with Governor Oborevwori.
“These explanations have become very necessary, given the spate of misinformation, speculations and propaganda that still persist in the political space concerning a non-existent Ogboru / Oborevwori political relationship.”
