World Cancer Day: Udu Council Chairman Advocates Prevention And Early Diagnosis.

As the world marks World Cancer Day today Wednesday, 04/02/26, the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun(Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP FCIA has called on the people of Udu Kingdom to embrace cancer awareness, early detection, and healthier lifestyles as key steps toward reducing cancer-related deaths.

In a message to commemorate the global day, Oyibode described cancer as a major public health challenge that cuts across age, gender, and social status, stressing that early diagnosis and timely medical intervention significantly improve survival rates.

According to him, many cancer-related deaths are preventable through increased awareness, regular medical check-ups, and the avoidance of harmful habits such as tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, and poor dietary practices.

“Cancer is no longer a distant or rare disease. It affects families and communities, including ours here in Udu. However, with the right information, early detection, and access to proper healthcare, many lives can be saved,” Oyibode stated.

The council chairman encouraged residents to take advantage of available health facilities for routine screening and to seek professional medical advice whenever unusual symptoms are noticed, rather than resorting to self-medication or unverified alternatives.

Oyibode reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery in Udu Local Government Area, noting that preventive healthcare remains a critical pillar of sustainable development and community wellbeing.

He also commended healthcare workers for their dedication and compassion in the fight against cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, urging them to continue their selfless service to humanity.

“As we join the rest of the world to observe World Cancer Day, let us stand together in hope, support those battling the disease, and promote a culture of prevention and care,” he added.

World Cancer Day is observed annually on February 4 to raise awareness, improve education, and encourage governments, organizations, and individuals to take action against cancer worldwide.
