Urhobo Youth Leaders Decry Brutal Assault on Corps Member in Anambra
The Urhobo Youth Leaders Association (UYLA) has expressed deep outrage over the disturbing viral video showing the brutal assault of Ms. Jennifer Elohor Edema, an Urhobo daughter and serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State. Reports indicate that Ms. Edema was violently beaten, stripped, and left bloodied by members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, allegedly operating under the authority of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
In a statement by UYLA’s National President, Olorogun (Amb.) Samuel Onoriode Oghotomo (JP), and the National Secretary, Olorogun (Dr.) Augustine Ogheneovo Atiti, UYLA condemned the barbaric, inhumane, and degrading treatment in the strongest possible terms, describing the incident as a shameful violation of Ms. Edema’s dignity as a woman and as a Corps Member, emphasising that it is not only an embarrassment to Anambra and Delta States but also an insult to the Urhobo people and a disgrace to Nigeria’s democracy. UYLA stressed that jungle justice has no place in any civilised society.
The Association therefore called on Gov. Soludo to take full responsibility by ensuring that the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted without delay. It further urged the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation, while also reminding the NYSC Directorate of its duty to guarantee the safety and welfare of Corps Members posted nationwide.
UYLA reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with Ms. Edema and her family, declaring that this matter must not be swept under the carpet and insisting that justice must be served.
