The condolence visit, which was carried out in collaboration with the UPU Bayelsa State Branch, was led by the Bayelsa State President, Pst. Godgift Oyeghe, who represented the President General. The delegation was warmly received at the family residence of the deceased in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The Ewhrudjakpo family was led by Hon. Chief Christopher Ewhrudjakpo, elder brother of the late Deputy Governor, who expressed appreciation for the show of solidarity and support from the Urhobo nation at this difficult time.

Speaking during the visit, the UPU delegation described the late Senator Ewhrudjakpo as an illustrious son of the Urhobo nation whose life was marked by service, integrity, and intellectual excellence. Born on 5 September 1965, the late Deputy Governor hailed from Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He was an accomplished academic, holding a PhD in Human Rights and Labour Law, and served Bayelsa State meritoriously in various capacities, including Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, before his election as Deputy Governor in 2020 under Governor Douye Diri.

His sudden passing at the age of 60, after collapsing while attending to official duties in his office in Yenagoa, sent shockwaves across Bayelsa State and the wider political community. In honour of his contributions to governance and public service, the Bayelsa State Government declared three days of official mourning.

During the condolence visit, Hon. Justice Margaret Akpomiemie (rtd) delivered words of comfort and encouragement to the family, urging them to take solace in the impactful legacy left behind by the late statesman. Bishop John Brown later led prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed and for divine strength and consolation for the bereaved family.

The visit ended in an atmosphere of sober reflection, reaffirming the UPU’s enduring commitment to standing with members of the Urhobo nation and the wider society in moments of grief and loss.
