Ukodhiko’s Scholarship Scheme: Parents And Guardians Meet To Finalize Selection
Member representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, has met with parents and guardians of the twenty (20) pre-qualified students of his university free-tuition scholarship scheme, who scored three hundred (300) and above in the just concluded 2024 JAMB examination.
The House of Representatives member, Ukodhiko in a meeting held at his Erahwa-Owhe Countryhome in Isoko North Local Government Area, on Monday, represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Pst. Sunday Elueni, discussed the details of the scholarship with the parents/guardians of the pre-qualified students.
He said, the meeting was called ahead of the final release of the names of the ten (10) students who are to be awarded the Rep. Ukodhiko full tuition scholarship through his UJA Family Foundation.
Speaking further, Pst. Elueni stated the final selection would be be hinged on three critical criterion which are, merit, parents/guardian financial capability, and Clan/Local Government of the students.
“while merit is the topmost selection criteria, students whose parents/guardians are not indigent no matter the scores will not be shortlisted on the final list.
“For even and equitable distribution of slots, each of the two Local Government Areas are to have 5 slots apiece and no clan is to get more than one beneficiary, thus, the highest scorer from each clan will be chosen from each of the LGAs ahead of others”, Elueni explained.
There was a brief talk to the parents and students present at the meeting on the importance of the scholarship by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Prof. Arthur Essaga.
The university teacher enjoined parents and guardians to always inculcate the right morals into their children and wards as education alone is the surest, easiest, safest, fastest and the most reliable way out of poverty in our today’s Nigeria that is marred by all forms of immorality.
He stated that, “Scoring 300 and above in today’s Nigeria as a student is a huge academic achievement, and I would want to enjoin you all to take advantage of this remarkable opportunity to make the sponsorer, your parents and Isoko proud.”
Mrs Josephine Odu-Monday, who responded on behalf of the parents, lauded the Isoko federal lawmaker, Hon. Ukodhiko for the initiative and, also applauded him for the even and equitable distribution of the slots and the transparent processes of selection.
“On behalf of all the parents/guardians whose child or ward made the pre-qualified list, we want to say thank you for coming up with this wonderful initiative that will redefine the academic landscape in Isoko in the near future.”
Thank you for the transparency and for giving us the parents/guardians the chance to be part of the process, and I want to assure you today that as parents, we will continue to guide our children in the right way”.
Present at the meeting were aides to Hon Ukodhiko, Mr. Kingsley Ikodudu and Ms Evelyn Ofabor, among others.
