Ukodhiko Elevates Isoko Youth Education With Scholarships And Legislative Bills

By Kelvin Ohoror

For any nation to be great and transformed, the youths who are seen as the leaders of tomorrow must have  sound education and developed mindset. One major means to achieving this is via education, where appropriate competences, skills and abilities are developed, horned and tested.

The member representing Isoko North/Isoko South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ajiroghene Ukodhiko recognises the need to empower the young ones in Isoko Federal Constituency and enhance their education, provide them with tools and resources to aid their study life by preparing them through Jamb lectures, enrolling them for the exams and awarding the best students scholarships for tertiary education.

Hon. Ukodhiko has continued to promote academic excellence in Isoko Federal Constituency through scholarships and support to indigent students to higher institutions and for excellence both in character and academics.

He is committed to youth educational empowerment for better leadership and national excellence with particular focus on the Isoko youths. He sees youth development via education as a process that prepares young people to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood through a coordinated, progressive series of activities and experiences which helps them to become socially, morally emotionally, physically and cognitively competent.

He believes in a new Isoko nation, where a breed of young people will be raised and nurtured via a mindset re-orientation and value system right from the grassroots of secondary schools to the tertiary institution, where they will be holistically developed in moral ethics and academic development.

In this regard, he sponsored (enrollment) of 400 students in the 2024 Joint Admission Matriculation Board Examination (JAMB). He also ensured there is free JAMB CBT based training for the 400 candidates who sat for the examination.

Continuing in his campaign promises to raise the educational bar in Isoko nation, he singlehandedly awarded full tuition scholarships to 10 students from Isoko North and South to study professional courses namely: Lucky Triumph – Civil Engineering, Etugbo Ann Omamuzo – Pharmacy, Amofagi Oghenolewhome – Medicine and Surgery, Oyovwe Emmanuel Eloghene – Medicine and Surgery, Ewhotera Joy Oghenokome, – Doctor of Pharmacy, Jombo Egbaoghene Favour – Pharmacy,  Abriku Iruoghene Victor – Software Engineering, Oniovosa Deborah – Medicine and Surgery, Oghenokome, Efiafia Oghenovie Ewomazino – Law and Okiroro Excel Onoraro – Computer Science, whose scores were the highest in the just concluded 2024 JAMB Examination. All will attend Madonna University, Elele campus.

Succinctly, in his legislative duty, he sponsored several educational bills including a Bill for an act to establish the Federal University of Agriculture, Erawha-Owhe, Delta State, and for related Matters; a bill for an Act to Establish College of Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition Olomoro, Delta State to provide Full-Time Courses, Teaching Instruction and Training in Technology, Applied Science, Arts, Social Sciences, Humanities and Management: and for Related Matters and a Bill for an Act to Provide for the Establishment of the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery Owhelogbo, Delta State and for Related Matters.

He also sponsored a Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Colleges of Education Act, Cap. F8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, to Provide for the Establishment of Federal of Education (Technical) Oleh, Isoko South, Delta State; a Bill for an Act to Amend the University Teaching Hospital (Reconstitution of Board e.t.c) Act No 10 1985 and for Related Matters, 2023 and A Bill for an Act to Establish the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, to Provide for Globally Competitive for Environmentally Friendly Innovative Research and Development in the Processing and Conversion of Indigenous Raw Materials into Valuable Chemical and Petrochemicals Products for the Development of Chemical, Biological and Man-Made Fibre Technologies for Industrial Application in Nigeria and numerous other Bills.

However, the quest to achieve a seamless development of the youths to meet up with the educational standard and present challenges requires a concerted efforts of various stakeholders.

This is therefore a clarion call for stakeholders and key players in Isoko nation in the area of youth development/education to work to shift away from a deficit model of developing young people to a strength – or asset- based model which emphasizes on a more holistic approach that focuses on the strengths of youths than mere fixing the weakness.
