Udu Not Safe Haven For Cultists Says Oyibode, Seeks Military Collaboration.
The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA has declared that Udu Kingdom will not serve as a safe haven for cultists, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening security through collaboration with the military and other security agencies.
Oyibode made the declaration on Friday, March 6, 2026, when he received the newly posted Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, N. P. Ochasi, during a courtesy visit to the council secretariat. The visit, according to the council chairman formed part of the Commanding Officer’s efforts to familiarise himself with the operational environment and areas under the battalion’s jurisdiction.
Oyibode stated that his administration would continue to work round the clock to ensure that Udu remains safe and conducive for residents and investors. He emphasised that no effort would be spared in tackling criminal activities, particularly cultism, which he described as one of the major security concerns in Udu.
He explained that the operational coverage of the 181 Amphibious Battalion extends across several communities, including parts of Udu Kingdom and areas stretching up to Agbor.
According to him, the visit also provided the Commanding Officer the opportunity to assess the strategic importance of certain locations within the council area, including the gas plant axis and other critical installations that require enhanced security presence.
The council boss further highlighted some of the prevailing security challenges in the area, noting that cult-related activities remain a concern. He also pointed to issues surrounding pipeline corridors where land disputes have occasionally created tension among communities.
Oyibode added that the council had received complaints from residents over the frequent movement of suspected herdsmen within some communities a development he said has heightened anxiety among the people.
He therefore appealed for sustained military support in addressing these security concerns, stressing that effective security management in the area requires continuous collaboration between the local government authorities and the military.
On his part, Lieutenant Colonel Ochasi assured the council chairman of the readiness of the Nigerian Army to provide the necessary support whenever required. He pledged to maintain a strong working relationship with the council to ensure peace and stability across communities within his command area.
The Commanding Officer also used the opportunity to inspect some ongoing projects within the council secretariat. He commended the council chairman for the construction of a Divisional Police Headquarters at the secretariat, describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening security architecture in the local government area.
