Udu Legislative Arm Approves N13.8 Billion 2025 Budget

In a landmark decision, the 8th Assembly of the Udu Legislative Arm, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Apunu Henry, has officially approved the N13.8 billion 2025 Appropriation Bill, aptly named the Budget of Unity. This significant legislative action took place today, March 26, 2025, marking a crucial step toward economic growth and infrastructural development in Udu Local Government Area.

The budget proposal was initially presented to the legislative arm by the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, High Chief (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA. Following its submission, the House convened for deliberation, assessing its provisions to ensure alignment with the developmental aspirations of the people.

During the plenary session, the Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. David Eterhi, moved a motion for the formal adoption of votes and proceedings, which was promptly seconded by Hon. Goddey Sefia.

Subsequently, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Joseph Yoregua (JP), presented the committee’s report, highlighting key areas that required adjustments due to economic realities. While commending his colleagues for their diligence, he pointed out the need for modifications in the constituency project allocations. He acknowledged the House’s commitment to thorough scrutiny and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to present the report.

Rt. Hon. Apunu Henry, the Leader of the House, urged members to meticulously analyze the recommendations put forward by Hon. Joseph Yoregua, ensuring that every provision in the budget effectively serves the interests of Udu residents.

Adding his voice, Hon. Oscar Okoro praised the Finance and Appropriation Committee for its detailed assessment, recommending a review of specific sections to better reflect the needs of the constituents. He expressed confidence that with proper implementation, the budget would bring tangible benefits to the people.

Several lawmakers, including Hon. Sele Victor, the Majority Leader; Hon. Orode Peter, Hon. David Eterhi, and Hon. Goddey Sefia, lent their support to the approval process. They echoed sentiments that the proposed budget was strategically designed to enhance the standard of living for Udu citizens.

Hon. Potential Ukonhon, the Deputy Majority Leader, emphasized the urgency of passing the bill, describing the Budget of Unity as a pathway to sustainable development. He urged his colleagues to ensure its smooth and swift implementation.

Following extensive deliberations, Hon. Sele Victor moved a motion for the approval of the bill, seconded by Hon. Joseph Yoregua. A unanimous voice vote sealed the decision, officially passing the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

Rt. Hon. Apunu Henry commended the lawmakers for their swift and dedicated approach in passing the bill, stating:

“Distinguished colleagues, today we have successfully fulfilled one of our constitutional responsibilities to the people of Udu. I sincerely appreciate your dedication to this process and your recognition of the importance of this budget to our collective progress.”

With the budget now approved, the legislative arm has set the stage for its implementation, ensuring that the Budget of Unity translates into meaningful development across Udu Local Government Area.

The plenary session was later adjourned following a motion raised by Hon. David Eterhi and seconded by Hon. Lucky Elohor.
