Udu Kingdom Moves Towards Peace: Leadership Conflict Addressed
In a significant development, an enlarged meeting well attended by the seven ruling houses of Udu Kingdom, was held yesterday 14/08/24 at the Palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom in Otor-Udu, headquarters of Udu Local Government Council. The meeting, chaired by the Otota of Udu Kingdom on behalf of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom Owhoru the 1st, was convened to address the leadership conflict that has been affecting the Udu kingdom and his people.
In his opening remarks, Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA revealed that Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori through the office of the Deputy Governor, had mandated Chief Edwin Uzor (JP), Special Adviser to Delta State Governor on Peace building and Conflict resolution, to mediate and resolve the leadership crisis Udu.
During the well-attended meeting, the leadership of Chief Moses Uparan and Chief Austin Emaduku was dissolved and stand dissolved.
It was also agreed that the traditional rulers edict of 1979 should be upheld, and nothing will be changed.
As part of the resolutions reached, it was decided that each of the seven ruling houses would nominate one person each, in addition to one representative from the Ovie of Udu and one representative from the Delta State Government is to be submitted to the council chairman, to form a caretaker committee that will be inaugurated by the state Government. This committee shall serve a tenure of a minimum of three months to oversee the activities of the Union of Udu Communities (UUC) and as well supervised the conduct of elections to substanstive UUC Executives
Furthermore, the modalities for the Udu constitution of the kingdom Traditional Rulers Council was resolved, that each ruling house shall nominate four persons as it was shrine in the 1979 edict and must be adhere to stringently and the communities that comprises the ruling houses shall sign and send their nominees which must be submitted to the Executive Chairman of Udu, who will forward same to the Delta State Government.
Chief Edwin Uzor, who speaks on behalf of the Delta State Government, warned that anyone found impersonating the Udu President General now that the UUC leadership issue has been resolved would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Otota, who is the udu kingdom prime minister, emphasized that the Constitution of the Union of Udu Communities remains sacrosanct, adding that peace is essential for development in the Udu kingdom
High Chief Sir Sam Odibo, the Otota of Udu Kingdom, who represented the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, Owhoru the 1st HRM Barrister Bethel Delekpe, appealed to all udu sons and daughters on behalf the Udu monarch. He seeks for peace, calm of tempers, and let go of past grievances, stressing that the Udu Kingdom must adhere to the 1979 edict.
The meeting was attended by six representatives from each of the 32 communities, including their Presidents, Secretaries, Youth Leaders, Women leaders, Elders and Elders Treasurers and other prominent personalities
This development marks a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the Udu Kingdom, as all parties work together to uphold the tradition and foster unity.
President Generals of various communities thanked the Delta State Governor for being proactive and the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council Olorogun Oyibode for being a unifier.
