Udu First Lady, Abies Oyibode, Flags Off Immunization Campaign In Udu.
Oghior Community, Udu LGA, 26/07/2024: Dcn. Mrs. Abies Oyibode, the Wife of the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, flagged off the Udu Polio Immunization Campaign today at Oghior townhall, Oghior Community, Udu LGA, Delta State.
In her address, Mrs. Oyibode stressed the significance of the Integrated Maternal Neonatal Child Health Week (MNCHW) and Routine Immunization Intensified Outreach Sessions. She highlighted that the event, from July 26th to August 1st, 2024, aims to provide essential health services to children aged 0-59 months, including routine immunizations, Vitamin A supplements, and oral polio vaccines to protect against preventable diseases.
She called on community leaders, religious leaders, and heads of schools to support the initiative by spreading the word and encouraging parents to bring their children to designated vaccination sites, such as health centers, schools, churches, mosques, and markets. She stressed that collaboration is crucial to eradicating preventable diseases and ensuring the health and well-being of future generations.
Mrs. Oyibode also praised the efforts of the Olorogun Oyibode-led administration for joining other councils nationwide in raising awareness and promoting the polio eradication campaign, which spans towns and villages to benefit Nigerian children.
Earlier, Dr. Mrs. Mercy Oghroro, the Executive Secretary of Udu Primary Health Care Authority, emphasized the critical nature of the campaign, explaining that polio, caused by the poliovirus, leads to acute flaccid paralysis in children, resulting in lifelong impairments. She stressed the importance of eradicating polio through the concerted efforts of the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency and Udu PHCA. Dr. Oghroro also highlighted the importance of breast milk for babies and encouraged mothers to maintain a nutritious diet.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Barr & Mrs. Moses Uchere, the President General of Oghior Community and his wife, Mr. Omoko Vincent, Personal Assistant to the Udu Local Government Council Chairman, and Mrs. Paulina Yoregua, representing Hon. Joseph Yoregua, Councilor of Ward 1, Mrs Ekokota Joy, Health Promotion Officer, Mr Venture Oyibode, Youth Leader of Oghior Community, among others. The occasion featured the presentation of gifts and refreshments to children and mothers, making it a memorable and impactful community gathering.
