Udu Deputy Leader Lauds Oyibode For Peaceful Protest Management
By Henry Ubus
Udu, Delta State—The Councilor representing Dsiec Ward 05, which includes the communities of Ugbisi, Ubogo, and Obubu, and Deputy Leader of the 10th Assembly of the Udu Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. David Eterhi Henry, popularly known as “Onowu,” has praised the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun(Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP FCIA, for his exemplary leadership during the ongoing nationwide protest over hunger.
In a statement, Rt. Hon. David Eterhi highlighted Oyibode’s remarkable civility and strategic leadership, which played a crucial role in ensuring that the protest in Udu remained peaceful and constructive. Addressing a large crowd at the popular express junction yesterday, Chairman Oyibode’s intervention was instrumental in preventing looting and the destruction of public facilities—a common occurrence in similar protests across the country.
The lawmaker noted that Oyibode’s experience as a former Students’ Union President has equipped him with a deep respect for the rights of the people, allowing him to manage the situation with tact and sensitivity. Unlike previous protests, such as those sparked by the cashless policy where commercial banks and other facilities were vandalized, the protest in Udu was marked by orderliness, with residents going about their daily activities without fear.
“Chairman Oyibode’s leadership during this protest is nothing short of legendary. His ability to unify and calm the masses during such a tense period speaks volumes about his commitment to the well-being of our people,” Rt. Hon. David Eterhi stated.
He also took the opportunity to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the economic hardship currently affecting Nigerians. According to Eterhi, the removal of fuel subsidies has led to a dramatic increase in the prices of goods and services, exacerbating the suffering of the masses.
The lawmaker urged the federal government to implement measures that would alleviate the burden on ordinary citizens, emphasizing that the people are struggling to make ends meet in the face of skyrocketing costs.
“This is not just about policy; it’s about the lives of Nigerians. We need urgent interventions to help our people survive these challenging times,” he added.
The commendation of Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode by Rt. Hon. David Eterhi underscores the importance of responsible and empathetic leadership in times of crisis. It also highlights the unity within the Udu community, as both leaders and residents work together to navigate these difficult times peacefully.
