Ugboren, Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State – The chairmanship election of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ugboren community faced a violent disturbance earlier today, but quick intervention by security personnel and local officials helped restore order.
According to Engr. Udoka Emmanuel, the Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Security, the unrest occurred prior to the arrival of the electoral team and security agents. Several cutlasses were seized during the disturbance, and efforts were swiftly made to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of the community members.
To avoid any additional casualties, the election was relocated to a new venue, where a credible, free, and fair election process was successfully conducted. During the voting, Comr. Emmanuel Gordin emerged as the new Chairman of the CDC.
Following the elections, Engr. Emmanuel visited various hospitals to check on the victims of the earlier violence, offering prayers for their swift recovery. His presence at the hospital underscored the administration’s commitment to community well-being and security.
The peaceful conclusion of the election, after the initial violence, highlights the dedication of Delta State’s leadership to ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process at the community level, despite initial setbacks.
